British track and field champion Callum Elson returns to long-distance running after three years. He completed the 3000m indoor PB at the UK Indoor Championships, clocking a speed of 7:52.08. Elson is still recovering from a partial Achilles tear at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow last year. The injury also took away his indoor and summer Olympic ambitions last year. He has raced three times in 2025, and his road to recovery looks good so far.
When asked how he dealt with last year’s injury in an interview with Athletics Weekly, he came up with an honest answer. “…….It’s my third race back in 12 months since an unfortunate accident where I’m still getting my confidence back on the track anyway, so, yeah, I feel like that’s a good enough time for me to stop banging on about being injured now……” The World Road Running Championships silver medallist has taken part in three track and field events this year, competing in a mile first, then a 1500m on 15th February 2025, and the latest one, which was a 3000m long-distance race yesterday, Sunday, 23rd February.
