Looks like the NFL’s coaching carousel has officially come to an end, with the Saints tabbing Eagles OC Kellen Moore. Nick Sirianni, for one, could be a bit heartbroken with Moore’s move to the Saints. Just after winning the Super Bowl LIX, Sirianni had some wise words for his OC, which seems to have gone in vain, “Let’s run this s— back.” Maybe Moore had already achieved everything he wanted, hoisting the Lombardi as an offensive coordinator. So, with the opportunity to coach as the main man in the building and the money that is predicted to flow, Moore is heading to New Orleans for his latest chapter in the NFL.
It’s been quite the journey for Moore as a coach in the league. From landing the QB coaching gig in Dallas to getting promoted to OC, Moore didn’t take long to showcase his offensive play-calling schemes. His Cowboys ranked within the top six for scoring in three out of the four seasons with him as OC. Then, with Moore’s departure from Dallas, he spent a single season with the Chargers. And as soon as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator position became vacant after Brian Johnson’s dismissal, Moore was on the move again.
This time with the Eagles, Moore orchestrated the league’s top-10 offense. His unit was seventh in scoring (27.2 PPG), eighth in total yards (367.2 YPG), and, of course, second in rushing (179.3 YPG). With such numbers on his resume, ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes the Saints would at least double or even triple Moore’s current $2.5M salary in Philadelphia. He would probably sit among the highest-paid coaches in the NFL from dwelling in the bottom a year ago. And you know it could also shoot up his net worth, which is probably lingering around $2M from his time with the Phillies.
Kellen Moore is the last HC hire of the 2025 cycle.
Remember, Dan Quinn was the last hire a year ago.
I take very little in the “order” of who gets hired and when in regards to hiring an HC.
Getting it right is far more important than getting it first. Congrats, Kellen. pic.twitter.com/ItSRpO4d8O

Now, the Saints have no choice but to bring Moore for whatever money they need to splash. Given their situation, Moore is their best bet to pull the franchise out of the mediocrity next season. Like the Eagles, OC has a lot to do the moment he touchdowns in New Orleans. From sorting out their QB situation to working his way through the league’s worst-placed cap situation. Moore wouldn’t have anything handed to him on a platter next season.
Can Kellen Moore really sort out the Saints’ mess in his first head coaching gig?
See, the thing is, Moore does have a lot of experience serving as a coordinator around the league. But he always had someone above him to take care of things if plans went awry. However, the same cannot be said with him taking up the Saints job. This team, which he is taking over, hasn’t sniffed the playoffs since 2020. Like the Saints at one point after two weeks, scored more than 80 points and looked like a team on the up. Then, this roster went on a seven-consecutive losing streak, with Dennis Allen getting the boot. None of the coaches whom the Saints interviewed before Moore were willing to try their hands at replacing Allen.
Well, you can’t really blame them for refusing the job. With a $54M salary cap, the Saints will have a lot of restructuring to do in the offseason. Otherwise, it would just be another season of mediocrity, even with a new head coach at the helm. Now, the salary cap isn’t the only thing Moore needs to worry about. The Saints also have a QB whom they can’t get rid of to start afresh. Releasing Derek Carr would see them eat up $50M in dead cap hits. So, that won’t really be a wise move for an already deflated cap space.
Considering where the Saints stand, Moore and his new home have a lot to do besides just coaching the players. Not finding a way to sort those issues out within a season can jeopardize Moore’s position in New Orleans. While those are still early talks, only the results on the gridiron will have the final say on Moore’s time in Louisiana.
