The 2025 TGL season has been a wild ride. Be it Kevin Kisner’s missed shot or Tiger Woods mishearing 199 yards as 99 years. Now, it all comes down to two teams battling for the championship. Six teams started the season, each grinding through five matches to earn enough points for a playoff spot. But not everyone made it. Tiger Woods’s Jupiter Links Golf Club finished fifth, just missing the playoffs, while Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf team struggled all season and went winless, landing in last place. The playoffs, however, brought the real drama.
On March 17, New York Golf Club pulled off a massive upset, taking down the top-seeded Los Angeles Golf Club to punch their ticket to the finals. Then, just a day later, Atlanta Drive Golf Club—coming in as the No. 3 dominated Bay Golf Club with a commanding 9-3 win. Just like that, the two underdogs were on their way to the biggest stage. Now, both teams are set to face off in a best-of-three series to determine the first-ever TGL champion. Unlike the single-elimination semifinals, this time endurance and consistency will be key this time.
The showdown begins with Game 1 on Monday, March 24, at 9 p.m. ET, airing on ESPN2 and streaming on ESPN+. We’ll see Justin Thomas, Billy Horschel, and Patrick Cantlay take on Cameron Young, Rickie Fowler, and Xander Schauffele in the first game. The action continues with Game 2 on Tuesday, March 25, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN+. Day 2 lineup will be announced after Monday’s game. If one team takes both games, they’ll claim the championship. However, if the series is tied after two matches, a decisive Game 3 will take place right after Game 2 on March 25 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN to determine the winner.

The TGL playoffs have been full of surprises, and the championship format adds even more excitement. Like the previous rounds, each final match will span 15 holes. However, there’s a unique twist that makes things even more intriguing. From the very beginning, TGL’s unique format has been a hot topic of discussion, so it’s only right that we break down how the championship will play out—because it’s anything but straightforward.
What is the format of the TGL final playoffs?
For the first nine holes, teamwork takes center stage in triples golf, where players rotate hitting shots to keep the strategy sharp. Success will come down to precision, coordination, and smart decision-making. But the final six holes bring a shift in dynamics, transitioning into singles play. Each team’s three players will take turns battling an opponent for one hole before rotating back in three holes later. Every hole carries a point—unless someone makes a bold move and changes the momentum.
If the teams are tied after 15 holes, the intensity reaches another level. Instead of playing extra holes, the winner will be decided in a sudden-death nearest-the-pin showdown, putting every ounce of skill and composure to the test. Along with the title, each winning player will take home $2.25 million, while the runner-up team will divide $4.5 million among its players.
With everything at stake, expect high-pressure moments, strategic plays, and edge-of-your-seat drama. The road to the title won’t be easy, but only one team will leave as the inaugural TGL champions. Make sure to tune in!
