The 19-year-old Estonian phenom had a viral illness and leg pain before moving to the Figure Skating World Championships in Boston. Also, in the contest, he had to start from the 19th position. Another demotivating factor for someone who was aiming to earn a ticket for the 2026 Winter Olympics from the Boston contest. Yet he stood back. The Estonian skater started superbly in the event and gave the stalwarts a busy day. But his luck wasn’t with him. In the end, he had to eat the bitter pill. But for him, there was a promise.
On March 29, Mihhail Selevko had to see his chances to enter the Winter Olympics vanish into thin air. His ultimate score of 218.02 with a free skating score of 140.52 put him in the 8th position after 2 of 4 groups in the men’s free skate event in the ongoing World Figure Skating Championships. That wasn’t enough for him to make a cut into the final berth. But does it mean that Selevko would give up on his dream or the sport?
No. Instead, after the event, Mihhail said, “I am disappointed for now. I was aware that the quad Salchow maybe wasn’t the most stable recently, but with the quad toe and the triple loop, I really don’t know what happened. I tried my best in the second half, but yeah, I’m fairly disappointed.” He further added, “I’m looking forward to working on my new free program. The choreographer will again be Adam Solya again, and I’ll also be working on all my quads.”
