From watching Gabby Douglas win at the 2012 London Olympics to being a part of the USA gymnastics team, Zoey Molomo has come a long way. The UCLA gymnast started her 2025 season competing at the Winter Cup in Louisville and became a vault champion and balance beam bronze medalist. But this is not her life’s greatest achievement! 16-year-old Molomo recalls the time when she shared the stage with the most decorated roster of athletes in the U.S. women’s gymnastics, remembering it as like “nothing I have ever experienced.”
During an interview with Inside Gymnastics Magazine, Zoey Molomo opened up about her experiences working alongside the star gymnasts. She recalls the time she shared the stage with her idol Gabby Douglas as they both competed at the same Core Hydration Classic last May to fix a spot at the U.S. Championships on the road to the 2024 Olympics. Molomo was just a rookie! She never had imagined competing with her hero, who was looking to make her comeback, which made it a surreal experience for her. Zoey Molomo qualified for the Olympic trials last year and was on the roster alongside Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera.
Working alongside Simone Biles and receiving words of encouragement from seniors like Jordan Chiles has been the most important and fun part of her life. “I was tearing up during my floor routine,” she remembered. “Just being there, the whole crowd was clapping as I was going. It was so surreal. It was insane. I will never take that for granted. That was the most fun I’ve ever had. It was just awesome.” Molomo placed 12th in the All-Around and 8th on the beam at Trials.
