“If…You Want the Best Me”- $10 Million Star Takes a Public Dig at Red Sox Front Office Amid Lack of Trust

We have seen it before. Trying to do the best for the team only to find oneself on the opposite side. This is what happened with the $10 million star of the Boston Red Sox, who wanted to have more opportunities in the bullpen but ended up wasting one. Now with the Red Sox gradually losing faith, the Red Sox star has taken a direct dig in front of the public at the front office. Guess how the drama unfolded?

Well, Liam Hendriks is to blame for the Red Sox’s 5-1 loss against the New York Mets. Hendricks not only allowed three earned runs but also managed to acquire only a couple of outs, and that too in the relief of the starting pitcher, Garrett Crochet. But not to forget that it was Hendriks’ second outing in the eleven appearances he made with Boston.

Considering his caliber and his three-time All-Star status, that really aggravates him. Liam Hendriks had a 3.38 ERA going into the game, which went up to 5.56. He also had nine strikeouts in his 10 2/3 innings, which is very questionable in and of itself. In the midst of rumors that the Red Sox are losing faith in him, Hendriks feels that he should be utilized more. According to a post by @BOSSportsGordo, Liam Hendriks said, “If the theory is you want the best me, throw me. No rhyme or reason. I have no idea … It’s actually a source of contention that I’ve had with the team and I’ve had multiple conversations about it.”

Liam Hendriks got a point, though. There were several games where he used to be the last player in the bullpen. It was a new experience for him; however, he tried his best to pitch and ensure that he acquired the trust of everyone. “We had a couple of chats. I got in there today and it didn’t quite work out,” he further said, stressing his lack of an idea regarding his role in Boston’s bullpen.

Although Hendriks made it clear that he did not want to request a trade, he seemed frustrated and unhappy. “I just want to pitch. I feel like I can make contributions to this team. I feel like I can make a lot more contributions than I have been, and I just want to be given that opportunity.” He remembered never being removed from the game in the past, but now everything changed drastically. And surprisingly, it occurred in back-to-back games where he hasn’t had enough chances to establish himself.

What lies ahead for the Red Sox’s $10 million star?

I feel like I haven’t been pitching enough,” the 36-year-old Boston Red Sox star remarked after the loss to the Mets. For Liam Hendriks, it’s all about the consistent pitching that can prevent him from getting rusty and worn out. That’s what he wants to do for the team. And if he cannot make any outs at the end of the day, then he doesn’t deserve to pitch either.

Liam Hendriks went 0-1 with a 5.56 ERA, 11 G, 11.1 IP, and 11 strikeouts at a 1.41 WHIP. The right-hander, who made 226 appearances with the Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics before that, was once one of baseball’s best relievers, recording 1145 saves with a 13.5 K/9. However, his current struggles can be attributed to the lack of pitching, which is quite evident from the 2025 stats.

However, moving forward, Hendriks is optimistic that the team will acknowledge his frustrations and get him to pitch more often. He will also like to forget what happened and focus on the things that lie ahead. It can be helpful for him to gradually get into the groove and do his best for the Boston Red Sox in the upcoming games.
