“I’m Getting Older”: Gable Steveson Makes Honest Wrestling Career Confession Amid Carter Starocci Fumble

Last year this time, i.e., in March, Gable Steveson had no time to think about his chance of entering the NCAA wrestling season again. Rather, he was hoping to enter the Buffalo Bills’ final lineup. He was all set to start his NFL career for the Bills. And Penn State NLWC or Carter Starocci? No way. Steveson was happy in the blue jersey and gear. However, his heart still had the names and he didn’t lose his respect for Penn State NLWC coach Cael Sanderson. In fact, in July last year, Gable shared a click of him and the PSU coach standing together in the Bills’ training camp on social media to celebrate the coach’s arrival to wish him luck. Gable took the gesture to his heart. But why are we discussing these past events now?

There are reasons. Straightforward to March 19, 2025. Gable Steveson is all set to enter his final NCAA Wrestling Championships. In the last one year, he crossed several barriers and made a journey on ice and fire. Still, here he is, with a 14-0 in the NCAA wrestling season. So what is his thought on this advancement? Or does he have anything in mind for the Penn State NLWC, the undisputed wrestling powerhouse, and Carter Starocci who has a chance to touch a fresh milestone in NCAA wrestling?

Gable Steveson had answers for all these questions in the press conference on March 19. Well, while responding to the first one, the Olympian said, “I’m getting older and then guys on the team are getting younger, so just coming back and kind of give them that leeway to show them what it takes to be something great in this sport. It was definitely a big thing and I’m happy I did it.” And what on Carter Starocci?

This time, the two-time NCAA champion seemed to be less philosophical. In the same conference, he said, “Just hard to put words on what he’s done and what this guy has done, too, leading into his fifth national title, fourth straight. If he, sorry, when he wins Saturday night, he’s going to go out there and be a five-time national champion. It’s going to blow the world up. And I think shout out to him and shout out to Penn State.”
