Injury Concerns Rock Giants’ Projected R1 Pick as Brian Daboll Forced to Turn To Million-Dollar QB

Well, the 2025 NFL Draft is taking shape gradually. While most CFB fans have thought that the race will be between Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward and others, Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter also stirred the pot. But looks like things took a left turn in Carter’s case as he fell prey to an injury. This might have left the New York Giants in complete panic mode.

After all Brian Daboll’s program is projected to land Carter. This is just gonna make the Giants’ woes 100x more now that the HC has landed in the hot seat with an alarming QB decision.

Abdul Carter’s projected arrival excitement turns into a concern for the Giants

Let’s peep into some mock drafts. Carter came off as a hot target with 12.0 sacks and led the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) with 24 tackles for loss in 2024. The Penn State edge rusher was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Going by the hush-hush, there might be a New York Giants- Tennessee Titans trade. It hinted at Miami QB Ward heading to New York while Carter landing in Tennessee. But as per the latest mock draft, Daboll and Co. will refuse to move down and will land the Penn State’s havoc-maven. However, the universe might have other plans that are leaving the analyst worried for Carter.

The former coach turned college football analyst Urban Meyer joined Colin Cowherd on the CFB ON FOX podcast. He stated, “Everything worries you as you’re starting to invest that kind of money and that kind of capital into a player.” The Nittany Lions star is suffering for a stress reaction in his foot. However, he chose to forgo the surgery. The paused surgery is already a factor of concern for Daboll. Here comes Carter’s inexperience that is shrouding his New York future with uncertainty.

As Meyer sounded alarm, “Abdul Carter is only relatively new at that defensive end position. He’s I think he’s still growing into his body.” While the CFB world is going gaga over Carter for his 20 tackles for loss record, there is another side of the story as well. As a pass rusher, he needs to overcome his inconsistency with deconstructing blocks. Well, often times he got washed out in the run game. Now with the Carter issue, Daboll now has too many things on his plate.

A controversial call by Brian Daboll

Going by Carter’s craze, the Giants’ fans would not mind much about the Penn State edge rusher landing in, they got a reality check now. However, here comes another reason behind their big upset. As per the reports, New York re-signed the quarterback, $1.03 million-worth Tommy DeVitto. The 26-year-old New Jersey native originally joined the team as an undrafted rookie in 2023. The QB did start eight games, but Daboll’s signal-caller lacks a canon. His arms are not strong enough to overcome a breakdown in mechanics.

Well, he did have a good time when he gifted a heroic three-game winning streak in the middle of a mediocre 6-11 campaign, two years ago. However, when DeVito was thrust back into the spotlight in the middle of another struggling run, he couldn’t resurrect the same magic. Already, Daboll is being held responsible. As one of the fans wrote, “This make me nauseated. We’re still moving in the wrong direction!”

So in case the New York fans were expecting a big comeback story after their lackluster 3-14 season, it’s going to be a patience test. Already the fans are upset about Brian Daboll giving Tommy DeVitto one more chance. Plus, they no longer have anything to be excited about Abdul Carter who now carries the “inexperience” tag.
