Is Phil Mickelson Playing in the 2025 Masters?

The first ever Masters Dinner was started by Ben Hogan in 1952. Since then every year, like clockwork, the dinner has taken place with the previous champion choosing the menu. An account on X shared the letter that Hogan had sent to all the Masters Champions for the first iteration of the dinner.

It was then reshared by Phil Mickelson with the following note, a heartfelt letter to underline how much golf has been for him in his life. “The start of something awesome. I’m so grateful to be part of this tradition every year. It’s the fulfiment of a childhood dream.”

The response by Mickelson means that he is more than likely to be a part of the upcoming Masters Tournament, which will be his 32nd year of participation. The news of his likely participation was also well-received by fans, many of whom wanted the 54-year-old to make his mark this year at the Augusta National.

Fans rally behind Mickelson after heartfelt response

Phil Mickelson has won at Augusta three times in his storied PGA Tour career. In 2004, 2006, and 2010. So that means he has hosted a few dinners himself. He will be aiming for his fourth title when he tees off this year. One fan really liked the letter and Mickelson’s note to go along with it. He wished him a victory, stating, “Really cool stuff Phil! Go get number 4!”

This year’s menu will be determined by Scottie Scheffler who won the  2024 edition. The menu that each former champion has a sense of individuality and thoughtfulness. A fan replied, stating that he loves the tradition mainly because of how each year’s menu is in it’s right a story telling device. He explained,  “I love how each of your menus at the Championship dinner tells a story!”
