‘It’s True’: Jay Monahan in Hot Water as Reports of PGA Tour Nearly Sabotaging LIV Golf Event Backed by Veteran Pro

The “current power struggle goes far beyond what is happening on the course, and it is causing serious damage that professional golf may never fully recover from,” said Flushing It Golf recently. But what exactly happened? Well, reports about the PGA Tour’s recent actions are the culprit here. While many were still arguing that they were making a desperate attempt to take control, LIV Golf pro is also here taking a jab at the PGA Tour’s commissioner, Jay Monahan.

The drama started when reports revealed that the PGA Tour has been allegedly threatening creators involved with LIV Golf’s “The Duels” with potential future suspensions if they participate in the unsanctioned event. While the reason behind this remains unknown, the community has been bashing the tour for their move with comments like “This would be absurd honestly.”

Witnessing this, Lee Westwood also chipped in with a sarcastic comment of his own. He said, “That’ll be you with a year ban for writing this article, Tom!,” possibly targeting the PGA Tour commissioner, Jay Monahan, who might ban the admin who let this information out in the first place. However, there was still confusion among the community.

EatandSleepGolf raised a question about the confusion, asking, “It needs to be corroborated. If Tom is the media now corroboration is essential. What he’s saying is probably true, but we need more evidence. Maybe it is there, and I haven’t seen it.” Responding to that, Westwood simply said, “It’s true.” EatandSleepGolf further asked, “Did they contact them all? Some of them? Just the ones who played PGAT events.”

The golfer responded, “Because of the backlash, they took them back from everyone apart from Wes. Obviously have to look consistent with his punishment, or they’ll be in a deep hole. Re 2016 Masters… see I can chip!” Surprisingly, the tour’s method to take control of the whole situation isn’t limited to this.

Reports also revealed that they are partnering with independent media and influencer outlets. One can say it’s fine to partner with independent media outlets however, it also raises serious questions about the integrity of golf journalism. Because media outlets are committed to the organizations they are meant to report on. If there is a partnership, things can go the way the tour wants, and it may cause a journalistic crisis. But what’s so special about ‘The Duels’ that the tour had to go to such lengths? If the reports are true.

What is LIV Golf’s ‘The Duels’?

This event aims to bring elite golfers and top content creators for an audience-engaged showdown. In the tournament, six LIV Golfers will team up with six of the top golf content creators. So just imagine what a sight it will be if you see your favorite LIV Golfer as well as a content creator on the same greens. The event will take place at Trump Doral Golf Club in Miami on April 5th.

It has an interesting format featuring a game of holes. One by one, each team, having one golf pro and a content creator, will take a shot. With a huge prize of $250,000 on the line, it will be worth watching. To catch the action live, you can tune in to Grant Horvat’s YouTube channel, as he will be streaming the whole tournament. Last year, the PGA Tour’s creator classic was able to accumulate 118,000 live viewers on YouTube.

Could it be that the tour is worried that LIV Golf may take over the community? What do you think about it?
