Just when it looked like Gervonta Davis had run out of supporters, IBF welterweight champion Jaron Ennis emerged from the shadows to become Davis’ knight in shining armor. Following the fight against Lamont Roach Jr. last Saturday night, the entire boxing world, including former two-weight undisputed champion Terence Crawford, came out with pitchforks.
Their argument? ‘The Reaper’ had done enough to secure a win against Davis. It didn’t help that Davis took a knee in the 9th round, which was not scored a knockdown by referee Steve Willis. Even the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) got involved to review the fight, which could overturn the ‘majority draw’ decision in Roach’s favor.
However, this overwhelming support for Roach didn’t deter Ennis, who indirectly exposed Crawford and the boxing world’s hypocrisy. For some context, right after the fight Crawford took to X, writing, “I never seen someone take a knee, and they don’t count it as a knockdown. Must’ve [forgotten] the rules for tonight,” Crawford wrote.

And rightly so—when a boxer takes a knee, it’s ruled a knockdown, regardless of the reason. Without this rule, fighters could deliberately drop to a knee anytime they’re in trouble, disrupting the flow of the fight. Regardless, while appearing in an interview with YSM Sports Media of late, Ennis painted a different picture of the fight.
“It was a great fight. I had it 7-5 Tank or you can make it to draw,” Ennis said. “But I feel like Lamont did good, he did a great job actually. I just don’t think he did enough to pull it off. I feel like people were overlooking what Tank was doing in the first five [or] six rounds. He was like boxing and frustrating him a little bit, but Lamont did a great job.”
As for why people feel Davis lost the fight, Ennis explained, “I feel like people just don’t like Tank to a point where any little thing… Just because he ain’t knock him out, they feel like he probably lost and he didn’t or it was a draw… I don’t know, people just be talking. At the end of the day, you can’t please everybody.”
Well, it’s up to you to decide whether Ennis’ analysis of the fight is true or not, but Terence Crawford and Gervonta Davis have always had issues with each other.

Before the Roach Jr. fight, Gervonta Davis and Terence Crawford engaged in a heated social media exchange after Davis was left off the guest list for The Ring magazine’s award ceremony in London. Davis, upset over the snub, took to X to vent his frustration, posting a series of since-deleted tweets slamming the event organizers and attendees.
Crawford wasted no time mocking Davis, writing, “I see somebody mad they wasn’t invited to the @ringmagazinegala,” followed by a laughing emoji. Davis quickly fired back, claiming he earns more than Crawford. “And I still make more than you,” he wrote, adding, “Yalll think he chasing greatness. He’s not, that’s what he have to do to make decent money..f**k boys.”

Crawford responded by questioning Davis’s financial literacy. “First thing a dumb rich person say to another rich person is I got more money than you! I bet you I own more investments than you and I don’t owe a dollar in taxes.” He continued, “You can’t buy nothing I can’t buy that I want, and that’s a fact.”
The feud intensified when Davis made personal remarks about Crawford’s family, leading to backlash and the deletion of his posts. The interesting part is that these two have always had a problem with each other. Some years ago, there were even talks of a fight between them. Not to mention, Davis was backing Errol Spence Jr. to defeat Crawford.
Having said that, Jaron Ennis seems to have gone against the popular opinion regarding the Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr. fight. But the question is, do you agree with his perspective? Does Terence Crawford just hate Davis?
