Jaron Ennis’ Father Has 6-Word Warning for Lamont Roach Jr. Before Gervonta Davis Rematch

Gervonta Davis had everything a boxer could dream of—fame, influence, and, according to Jaron Ennis’ father, Bozy Ennis, even sway over the boxing world, including its officials. This comes after the Baltimore native’s controversial fight against WBA super featherweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. last Saturday in New York. Davis stumbled, tumbled, and staggered his way to a majority decision draw, which put a dent in his perfect boxing record. While the draw itself was big news, his decision to take a shocking knee in the middle of a fight has landed him a lot of scrutiny from both fans and experts in the community.

If, because of some miracle, you don’t know what happened, in the 9th round of the fight, Lamont Roach fired off a nasty combination. One of these stray shots landed on Davis. Moments later, the 30-year-old dropped to his knees, but immediately after, he got up, ran to his corner, and poked his head out of the ropes.

Calvin Ford, his trainer, quickly wiped his face, and Davis came back to the ring. Referee Steve Willis had started a mandatory ten count but stopped. It was later revealed that Tank wanted to get the grease wiped off his eyes, which had dripped into his eyes during the fight. Whatever the case may be, the move should have been declared a knockdown since his knees touched the canvas, but that didn’t happen.

Had the referee counted it as a knockdown, as it should have been, Roach would have won the fight by decision. Now, the NYSAC is reviewing the fight, which could overturn the decision in Roach’s favor. Regardless, Jaron Ennis’ father used this incident to issue a six-word warning for Roach Jr. before the pair eventually meet for a rematch, which may happen in May.

“Tank got a lot of power,” he told YSM Sports Media, hinting that this sort of thing can happen again. When asked whether Davis getting his face wiped in the middle of a fight should have been a disqualification, Bozy said, “That’s what they say. That’s what they say. That’s what I heard.”

While Bozy clearly feels it should have been a knockdown, his son has a slightly different outlook on the fight.

Jaron Ennis claims Gervonta Davis won the Lamont Roach Jr. fight

IBF welterweight champion Jaron Ennis has come to Gervonta Davis’ defense amid controversy surrounding his fight against Lamont Roach Jr. Many, including Terence Crawford, believe Roach deserved the win, especially after Davis took a knee in the ninth round—an action Crawford criticized, saying, “I never seen someone take a knee, and they don’t count it as a knockdown.”

However, Ennis disagrees with the backlash. “It was a great fight. I had it 7-5 Tank or you can make it a draw,” he told YSM Sports Media. He also believes people are unfairly discrediting Davis. “I feel like people just don’t like Tank… Just because he ain’t knock him out, they feel like he probably lost.”

That being said, it appears Jarron Ennis and Bozy Ennis have contrasting opinions of the Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach fight. It goes without saying that the incident clearly showed Davis’ sway in the boxing community, but the question is, do you agree with it?
