The Celtics’ Game 4 collapse against the Knicks was bad enough. Losing Jayson Tatum to a potentially serious right leg injury made things worse. But according to head coach Joe Mazzulla, there’s more going wrong behind the scenes.
After the 121–113 loss that put Boston in a 3–1 series hole, Mazzulla didn’t shy away from criticism. He cited the team’s lack of defensive discipline, poor rebounding, and failure to keep pace in transition, especially during the disastrous third quarter, as major issues. But his comments on the locker room raised eyebrows.
“You trust the character of the guys in moments like this,” he said, before noting that players would “be ready” moving forward. It sounded like a vote of confidence—yet also a subtle challenge to a shaken roster that’s fallen apart under pressure.
With Tatum potentially sidelined and confidence clearly slipping, Boston needs a spark—fast!
