Jeanie Buss Is Thankful to Lakers Legend as First Words Since $10Bn Sale Emerges

It’s overdue but Jeanie Buss is back on social media a month since selling the Lakers. We can thank Angel Reese, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Adidas for that. Yet if you’re expecting her to end her social media silence on that $10 billion bombshell, just… nope. Nothing on all the trade chatter about LeBron James either. Not even a peep about the Summer League roster. Not a mention about the Lakers in fact.

On June 18, 2025, news broke that the Los Angeles Lakers were sold for $10 billion to Dodgers owner, Mark Walter. While the Buss Family is handing over the reins, Jeanie Buss would remain as governor. Almost everyone in the NBA world has spoken about it. However, since then it’s been radio silence from Jeanie herself.

Until today. The 63-year-old was on Instagram with a belated OOTD and many to thank and send love to.

Sporting a Lakers tone purple tracksuit from Adidas, Buss gave a shoutout to the people who gifted her the outfit. “Love my purple @adidas track suit – thanks to @deborahmorales33 and @kareemabduljabbar_33 I am wearing with my white stiletto @sneex shoes (as comfortable as regular sneakers, fr).” Kareem has been signed with Adidas since 1971. His signature collection was revived with a lot effort by his agent, Deborah Morales who Buss thanked.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s bond with the Buss family, as well as Jeanie is well documented. She celebrated the Captain’s recent book becoming an NY Times bestseller, his birthday, and his legacy when LeBron James broke his all-time scoring record. She even made it possible for him to attend the Showtime reunion recently despite his health restraints. He wasn’t the only one who made Buss come back online.

Buss further wrote, “Worn to the @la_sparks vs. @chicagosky game to see one of my favorite athletes @angelreese5 play (she was ).”

We know what you’re thinking. When did the Los Angeles Sparks play against Angel Reese and Chicago Sky? That would be June 29, 10 days since the Lakers sale. Buss was in Crypto.com arena with her husband, Jay Mohr, in this exact fit for that game. So this post is overdue in that regard too.

Jeanie Buss only spoke up for Angel Reese

While the Sky was in LA to play against the Sparks, the Lakers made a subtle move. They signed undrafted free agent from Maryland, Julian Reese, better known as Angel Reese’s brother. Julian was on the Summer League roster. Nothing on his future yet though.

His (sort of) boss, meanwhile was at Crypto.com Arena watching his sister. Jeanie Buss’ favorite player led the game with 24 points and 16 rebounds. The Sky beat the Sparks 85-92 but Buss was probably not too sad about that. Angel got the Lakers governor more charmed than whatever the Sparks are doing. (Note: the Buss family has no ownership stake in Sparks. That’s a separate group led by Mark Walter and Magic Johnson.)

Jeanie Buss has been very quiet on the Lakers front and her silence continues. Fans under the post asked her thoughts behind it directly but got no response. Until then, we can only speculate behind her decision.
