Did Jerry Jones just take a subtle poke at their CB Trevon Diggs? The Cowboys have made their selections in the draft class. And they have made a balanced selection of both offensive and defensive players. For the new first-time HC Brian Schottenheimer, it was a good draft, at least for now. Dallas addressed their needs for the season, which also included drafting a CB. That very move led reporters to ask Jerry Jones about CB Trevon Diggs’ availability for the team in the upcoming season.
Trevon’s football career currently stands at a worrisome point as he has been sidelined for the last two seasons due to injuries. Diggs tore his ACL in his left knee during the 2023 season late in September. After that, he did not step on the gridiron for the remaining season. The 26-year-old underwent surgery to repair his ACL. When he returned for the 2024 season, the CB sustained a groin injury, exiting the season in December. Diggs then once again underwent surgery on the same leg.
There were reports that the Cowboys were not happy with how Trevon was approaching his rehab process during his injury. Jerry Jones subtly confirms these rumors to be true as the team owner spoke at the post-draft conference.
When asked about Diggs’s return, Jones first expressed some optimism: “We have a good idea. He’s working hard. That’s very important because if he will be very good and diligent in his rehab process, then he’ll get back quicker,” he said. “And when he does get back, he’ll be sounder,” added Jones. That’s promising.
Jerry Jones on when Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs (knee) could return: “We have a good idea. He’s working hard. That’s very important because if he will be very good and diligent in his rehab process then he’ll get back quicker. And when he does get back, he’ll be sounder. If he has…

But then Jones kind of takes a subtle poke at the CB, hinting at situations where Diggs might not have fully committed to his rehab process. “If he has not worked as hard, he is more subject to injury. He’s learned that one time. I have a lot of hope that his actual rehab and experience from the time before are really helping him out. I think it is,” said Jones.
So, while Diggs’s comeback remains uncertain, Dallas isn’t sitting around twiddling their thumbs.
Has Jerry Jones drafted Trevon Diggs’ replacement?
“To see that come together of Schotty taking these new guys, the approach to them, Will working the scouts… this was a good draft.” That’s what Jerry Jones had to say about this year’s draft. The Cowboys added nine players during the three-day draft. In their first round, they picked up Tyler Booker, who will most likely step in for Zack Martin after his retirement. Other than Booker, the team drafted three more players for the offense: Texas RB Jaydon Blue, another RB from Clemson, Phil Mafah, and Oregon OL Ajani Cornelius.
On the defensive side of the ball, Dallas first and foremost drafted an edge rusher, Boston College’s Donovan Ezeiruaku, adding some help for Micah Parsons. Then, in the third round, they drafted CB Shavon Revel as the 76th overall pick. The East Carolina alum, Shavon Revel Jr., looks promising. The CB recorded 71 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 16 pass breakups during his college career. The 24-year-old was expected to be a first-round pick in the draft.
However, Revel’s draft stock fell due to a torn ACL he suffered last year in September. Dallas COO Stephen Jones even mentioned that Shavon might start his season on the PUP list.
But the team drafting him reflects their confidence in the young rookie. After hearing his name on draft night, the CB shared, “I put on a whole blue suit. Hey, it might be a chance I go to them ‘Boys.’ It was crazy though because me and my family were talking about it the whole time, the whole month, this whole year.” And now it’s time to prove.
Whether the team will prepare Shavon Revel to be Trevon Diggs’s replacement remains an intriguing question. However, Diggs might want to brace himself for the upcoming season to make a strong comeback.
