With the 2025 NFL draft almost around the corner, the Cowboys draft buzz is slowly picking up. This time, it’s related to their offensive line, which might see some big changes. With future Hall of Famer guard Zack Martin retiring, the Cowboys have a huge hole to fill at right guard. Yes, the Cowboys are expected to replace Martin with Brock Hoffman. Still, it means their depth is not at all deep. That’s why their latest draft interest in an offensive lineman is more than logical. And just to let you know, the one the Cowboys are eyeing isn’t your regular offensive lineman. His film speaks for itself. Some special prodigy he is!!
So, the Cowboys are said to be pondering the prospect of signing UCLA’s 6-foot-5, 316-pound Josh Carlin. Speaking with Justin Melo of The Draft Network, Carlin said, “I met with the Texans, Cowboys, and Colts at the Tropical Bowl. It was a fun process. Those three teams knew a good bit about me. Well, here’s everything that made the Cowboys take a closer look at Bruins center. First, it was his outstanding versatility. “They like my versality and how that’s the biggest aspect of my game,” Carlin shared.

Appearing in more than 53 games for UCLA, Carlin put in shifts all around the offensive line. Center, tackle, guard—Carlin was everywhere whenever needed. As he also described to Melo, “The first two years of my career at UCLA, I actually played tackle. I bumbed down to guard and then I played a little bit of center this past season..I can snap the ball and also play both guard positions. Wherever they need me at the next level. I can plug a hole and just go.” Seeing his insane flexibility to play anywhere in the offensive line, Carlin could be a gold in the NFL.
Offensive linemen suffer injuries anytime due to the pushing and shoving nature of their game. Carlin’s versatility in playing all five positions can be a huge asset for the Cowboys. Now, there’s also another thing beyond his versatility that made Carlin stand out among the rest. Adding to his thoughts on why the Cowboys probably took an interest in him, Carlin noted, “They appreciate that I’ve had some great coaches and how that played a role in my time at UCLA.”
Coming into coaching, Carlin worked under former NFL head coach Chip Kelly and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. Their hand in Carlin’s development has given him an edge in the upcoming NFL draft. So, now it’s totally up to Jerry Jones whether he can beat the Texans and Colts to get Carlin’s signature. While the Cowboys might be focused on scouting Carlin, rumors are linking their face of the franchise to Cleveland.

It wouldn’t be an NFL offseason if the Cowboys didn’t dominate the headlines for all the ugly reasons. Coming off a miserable 7-10 campaign that saw them miss out on the playoffs for the first time in 3 years. The Cowboys need all the firepower they can get right now to turn things around come 2025. And obviously, to have any chance of turning the tides, they need their $240M QB Dak Prescott. The NFL’s richest QB only played eight games last season due to suffering a season-ending hamstring injury. As Prescott slowly comes back to full fitness, a shocking rumor has emerged surrounding his future in Dallas.

Bruce Dennan said last week, “The Browns are negotiating as we speak with the Dallas Cowboys for a trade for Dak Prescott.” Considering the Browns really need a proper starting QB. With Kenny Pickett touted as a backup and Deshaun Watson probably out for the 2025 season. These rumors did have some weight behind them. However, Cowboys insider Jane Slater was quick to call those reports fake news. She wrote on X, “I run it all down when working this beat, and the Dallas Cowboys are NOT working on trading Dak to the Browns. In fact, texts with two sources tell me fake news and absolutely not before this gets any sort of wheels.”
Just like that, Slater poured cold water on Dak to Browns rumors that didn’t even get the chance to shift gears. So, this means the Browns won’t be having one $240M and another $230M QBs in their roster. As for the Cowboys, they will probably keep their man as they try to turn things around, with Prescott leading the charge.
