Looks like the New York Jets have a one-Aaron policy now. Just days after locking in Aaron Glenn to lead the squad in 2025, the buzz is that they might be gearing up to cut ties with their other Aaron—yeah, the veteran QB himself, Aaron Rodgers. “I have learned that Aaron Rodgers flew back to New Jersey to meet with the Jets about his future. Met with the team’s head coach and the GM only to be told that they want to move on from him,” that’s what Fox reporter Jay Glazer reported during the Super Bowl day.
But why’s the sudden change in plans? I mean, the guy signed a three-year deal with the Jets, and 2025 might just be his final season in New York. And who knows? It could even be the last dance of his NFL career. But let’s be real: Rodgers has been with the Jets for a couple of years and the results? Let’s just say a total train wreck—Jetwreck, to be specific. But here’s the kicker: according to Dianna Russini, the Jets came up with another excuse to cut ties with him.
You see, Rodgers has had a pretty bad experience with Pat McAfee’s show. Not that he sparked some jaw-dropping controversies, but ever since his false and misleading statement about COVID-19 made headlines, the QB’s been under scrutiny. And according to Russini, Rodgers couldn’t appear on Pat McAfee’s show anymore if he wanted to be with the team next season. “You’re not going to do Pat McAfee interviews anymore. If you were to stay here, here is how we would want it to be,” as per the reported conversation between Rodgers and the Jets.

Now, that sounds pretty absurd. Sure, the team might think the QB’s getting distracted. But what if Rodgers led the Jets to the postseason? Would they still release him just because he appears on a daily sports talk show? Nah, I don’t think so. On top of that, it’s pretty much giving an,“Aaron Glenn taking the control,” vibe, isn’t it?
However, we just can’t ignore the elephant in the room. See, the Jets signed him back in 2023 and since then, Rodgers has been having a tough time. He suffered a torn Achilles and missed out on his first season with the Jets.
Enter the 2024 season and he led the team to a brutal 5-12 regular season ending, and in the midst of it, he just played 18 games in two years. The result? The team has already shown the door to the HC, Robert Saleh, and the GM Joe Douglas. And looks like the team’s gonna complete the 3-peat of cutting ties if they release Rodgers.
Either $1M or a spot on the roster for Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers? Man’s got more money moves than touchdown throws—at least in the last few years. And it’s not just limited to his hefty NFL contracts. Nah, the 41-year-old QB knows how to rake up some pretty chunks of money from his side gig. After all, he’s the 14th highest-paid athlete globally according to the Forbes estimates as of 2024. And the Pat McAfee show is one of the biggest instances of it.
The host Pat McAfee confirmed a year and a half ago that the Jets’ QB is making over $1M for his weekly appearances on ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show. Yeah, you read that right. “Aaron has made over $1,000,000 with us, for sure,” McAfee told the Post’s Andrew Marchand, adding Rodgers “deserves much more than what he’s gotten for the time and effort he has put into” the show. Indeed!

Well! Well!! Fast forward to now, and the Jets are out here telling Rodgers, ‘Cash in on the McAfee Show or cash in with us—but not both.’ Talk about a tough call. But let’s be real—radio and TV shows shell out cash all the time to get players and coaches on air, right? But looks like the Jets’ QB is an exception.
Now, it’s on Aaron Rodgers to make the final call. Let’s see if ditching the McAfee show brings a Super Bowl to the New York team.
