JJ Watt can finally kick back and relax. His unretirement bet is officially over. The former Texans legend and current Burnley FC minority shareholder had made a wild promise to Bengals fan James Trafford, Burnley’s goalkeeper. Watt told Trafford he’d come out of retirement to play for the Bengals if Trafford didn’t allow a single goal for the rest of the EFL season. And for a while, it looked like Watt might have to dust off his cleats. Trafford went on an insane 12-game clean sheet streak, leaving Watt sweating bullets.
However, on Tuesday, Cardiff City finally broke through, scoring in Burnley’s 2-1 victory. Cue the heavy sigh of relief from Watt, who took to social media to celebrate his freedom.
Cincinnati, that was a fun ride.
Hope you enjoyed getting to know a bit about Burnley & our squad.
What an unbelievable run for Traff & the boys. An improbable bond formed from across the pond. Bengals fans are welcome on Turf Moor any time.
As for me:
A feast & a drink await. https://t.co/x6902rskxV

“Cincinnati, that was a fun ride,” Watt wrote. “Hope you enjoyed getting to know a bit about Burnley & our squad. What an unbelievable run for Traff & the boys. An improbable bond formed from across the pond. Bengals fans are welcome on Turf Moor any time.” Classic JJ Watt, always finding a way to keep things entertaining! Honestly, this whole saga was a wild ride – soccer, football, and a retired NFL star all tangled up in one hilarious bet. Now, if you’ll excuse him, Watt’s got a feast to attend.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned…
