TPC Sawgrass is never an easy walk, but when the weather turns ugly, it can push even the best golfers to their limits. That’s exactly what happened to Jordan Spieth, who had a tough time navigating the brutal conditions and let his frustration show. The most telling moment came on the par-5 16th hole. After hitting his second shot into the water, Spieth couldn’t hide his emotions, tossing his club aside in frustration—a moment caught on live television. This resulted in him getting a penalty, but his problems weren’t over just yet. His fourth shot found the bunker, leaving him with a tricky up-and-down. He did well to get the ball to six feet but missed the putt, walking away with a painful double bogey. Could it get any worse for him?
Despite the rough stretch, Spieth’s round wasn’t all doom and gloom. In what was a brutal day for scoring at The PLAYERS Championship, his 1-over 73 was one of the better rounds of the day, tying for the sixth-best score in the field. However, his actions were the main highlight.
Discussing it, Randy spoke about Jordan Spieth in the latest episode of the No Laying Up Podcast. “Spieth just has to avoid some big numbers. He made a double in round two and a triple in the final round today. He’s bogeying some parts, and it’s just sloppy. That’s what’s killing me with Jordan. Let alone putting 18 holes together—he doesn’t give me any confidence that a consistent 72-hole performance is coming anytime soon,” he said during the discussion.
Well, he wasn’t really wrong. Take a look at his 2025 Valspar Championship performance, for example. He started with a great start, carding an eagle on the first hole during the opening day. However, right after that, things started deteriorating. From the second hole, he carded three consecutive bogeys. In fact, he carded two double bogeys during the tournament. After scoring 1-over on the final day, he settled for a T28. So his performance has surely seen some better days, which is quite eveident from moments of spark ont he course but consistency in those sparks is what is holding him back.

But we also can’t forget that just coming back to the course was a big deal for Spieth after so many months, given the physical battle that he went through.
Jordan Spieth reveals his wrist injury
Jordan Spieth returned after months to the PGA Tour at the Cognizant Classic last month, and it came with a sobering revelation. The three-time major champion admitted he was grappling with a career-altering reality. Still dealing with discomfort from wrist surgery, Spieth was candid about his struggles, saying, “I don’t enjoy the way it feels waking up.” His comeback wasn’t just about chasing trophies—it was a test of how his body would hold up, leaving fans to wonder whether this marked the beginning of a new chapter or the gradual end of his storied career.
For Spieth, 31, the Cognizant Classic was more than just another tournament—it was a crucial measuring stick. After missing the first month of the 2025 season while recovering from wrist surgery, the Dallas native worked to redefine his approach to the game. Ahead of the event, he spoke about the challenge of balancing rest and competition, revealing that even a six-day break had left his wrist feeling worse upon his return to practice. The paradox remained: light activity sometimes helped loosen it up, but too much exertion risked setbacks. Despite these uncertainties, Spieth delivered a strong performance at the event, finishing tied for ninth and offering hope that he could still compete at an elite level.
As he navigates the challenges ahead, fans will be watching closely to see how he adapts and whether he can reclaim his place among golf’s elite. What do you think lies ahead for Spieth? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
