Jorge Masvidal Rubs Salt in ‘Fragile’ Leon Edwards’ UFC Woes in Message for Dana White

Remember the iconic catchphrase, “I gave him the three-piece with the soda’? Jorge Masvidal coined that gem to describe his backstage altercation with Leon Edwards. It’s hard to believe it’s been six years since the two welterweight standouts threw hands behind the scenes at a UFC event in London back in 2019. Masvidal’s nonchalant behaviour back in 2019 cemented the moment in MMA lore. Fast forward to 2025, and the bad blood is still boiling between these two rivals.

The incident happened six years ago, however, the former BMF belt holder is still asked about it to this day. Why? Well, that’s because the rivalry between them was never settled. ‘Gamebred’ has time and time again emphasized that he accepted the fight against the former champion, but Edwards declined, so the matchup never came together. However, a clash between these top contenders seems more likely now.

How? Well, Jorge Masvidal wants to make a UFC comeback, and Leon Edwards is currently on a two-fight losing streak. As time passes, their fight seems increasingly likely, and ‘Gamebred’ shares the same belief. When asked about his comeback fight at ‘Submission Radio,’ the former BMF belt holder emphasized, “Give me the Leon fight, and then after that, I fight whoever has that damn belt. And then let’s go, bro! Leon just came out being the champion, bro.

He further added, “Anybody else beats him, giving him a title shot — what would they give me? So I want you to tell your boy Dana. I know Dana’s probably gonna see this because you’re putting it out. You tell Dana, “Hey Dana, listen, you give him Leon in the title fight. That’s it.” Dana White couldn’t make that fight happen when they both were under the UFC management, but since Jorge Masvidal is looking for an opponent after his boxing endeavor, it could propel the UFC CEO to make that matchup.

Jorge Masvidal calls out ‘fragile’ Leon Edwards for his return fight

Well, Leon Edwards has been exposed in his last two outings! The kryptonite to Edward’s Superman is wrestling, and guess who’s thrilled about it? Jorge Masvidal! When asked how a fight between them would play out, Masvidal confidently stated that he would rely on his wrestling. “[I beat Leon] in every way, shape, and form. He can’t wrestle me for 5 rounds so I don’t have to worry about the takedowns. And I know on the feet he’s fragile compared to me.”

Sean Brady and Belal Muhammad have effectively exposed the former champion’s fragile takedown defense, which is likely to be a weakness many fighters will seek to exploit. While Jorge Masvidal is eager to face Leon Edwards, Michael Bisping believes Edwards should take on a different opponent instead.

Michael Bisping wants Leon Edwards to focus on his striking

What sets Leon Edwards apart from other welterweights is his striking. The British fighter is renowned for his striking abilities, and Michael Bisping wants him to focus solely on this aspect in his upcoming fights. While having a conversation with TNT Sports, the former middleweight champion emphasized that Edwards is a technical fighter and it would be better for him to go back to his roots: “I think the biggest opponent for Leon Edwards now, though, is going to be himself.”

He further added, “What’s going on in there [in his head]? Does he accept that? ‘Okay I was just beaten by two really high-level grapplers, maybe the two best grapplers in the division and I’m still 31 years old. I haven’t slowed down, I haven’t got injuries, I’m not riddled with arthritis, I’m [not] blind in one eye, okay.’ Or does he have the strength to say ‘Hold on a minute, you know I’m going to rebuild myself.”

Leon Edwards is just 33 years old, which gives him time to introspect on his shortcomings. However, the question remains: Can he come back from back-to-back losses? What are your thoughts on the hubbub? State your thoughts in the comments below.
