And we are 50 games down already in the season, still barely any sign of spark from Juan Soto! “…After you make a commitment for this long, it takes your time… look around and enjoy the moment.” That’s what Juan Soto said after the Mets’ 5-2 win against the Dodgers. Yes, the match, where he finally delivered – a 2-run double with loaded bases. But was it enough?
With much of the noise stemming from his massive price tag, there’s little to praise. Only eight home runs, 21 RBIs, and an average of .236 with a .786 OPS. Still it’s not just his struggling stat that’s infuriating fans or analysts. An MLB insider has made a surprising revelation of the actual reason behind fans’ frustration.
During a recent discussion in JomBoy Baseball, MLB insider Chris Rose pointed out, “I saw a lot of frustrated Mets fans with what transpired not just against his old team, the Yankees, but obviously, what started at Fenway Park with not busting out of the box on the ball that hit off the wall and then him taking a tonne of pitches seemingly down the middle.” Remember what happened at Fenway Park and why Juan Soto’s effort raised the eyebrows of fans?
Well, Soto wasn’t “hustling.” During the game between the Mets and Red Sox, Juan Soto launched a ball in the air, thinking that it would be a home run. However, he was undeterred by the fact that the ball hit the Green Monster and failed to clear the fences. What was more concerning was that he didn’t even try to sprint out of the box. Rather, he settled for a single.
But that’s not all! He has been facing too many pitches without recording any hits. So, is he lacking the effort? Well, Trevor Plouffe has an answer to it. “I think it’s a little different because he’s not just—he’s not like struggling; like, the effort isn’t there.” He compared Soto with Trey Turner, who has put in every bit of effort, despite fans getting behind him all the time to get the results.
Don’t take it the wrong way. But Juan Soto doesn’t the same anymore ever since he departed from the New York Yankees and joined the New York Mets. There might be a lack of intent and that’s what concerning fans and not just his struggles.
And now that he is not in pinstripes, some even thing it’s for the best…
Good riddance of Juan Soto for the New York Yankees
Well, not long ago, the New York Yankees fanbase was literally cursing Juan Soto for his betrayal. But now, considering the way the 26-year-old slugger is struggling, they might be thinking they are just too lucky. And it’s not just the Bleacher Creatures!!!
Well, Nicholas Turturro, who once took a major dig at Soto for leaving the Yankees for their crosstown rivals, appears content now. When asked about his thoughts on Soto leaving the Yankees, Turturro clearly said that it was not “mutual.” Juan Soto spent one year with the Yankees and they made it to the World Series. It was indeed a special moment for everyone, right?
“It was kind of fitting that it landed right over his head. It was like, ‘Hey man, take that.’ We’re the Yankees; we’re loyal fans, and we loved him. We gave him our heart, and we just felt a little bit shunned because you went down the street to little brother,” the 63-year-old discussed the Soto era.
It was good but short-lived, even after the Yankees were ready to pay a massive $760 million. So that hurt even more than a breakup, right?
But there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. Stressing how the Yankees are dominating this season, Nicholas Turturro said that they have gotten better without Juan Soto. They now have Max Fried, Cody Bellinger, Paul Goldschmidt, and Devin Williams, who are consistently performing and have taken the team to new heights.
Although the Yankees seem to have gotten a lot of things right, they are still “kind of a work in progress,” as stated by Turturro. However, in the long run, it is also true that neither all the money can be allocated to one player nor that single player can fit every need. And hence, Turturro reacted, “God bless, good riddance, good luck, get out of here.” Well, he seemed quite happy with the way things are going without Juan Soto.
But what about the Mets then? Did they invest all those dollars just to receive a once in a blue moon performance? Well, his delivery against LA did light up some hopes, though. Now, let’s see if he can keep up with it and be the powerhouse for the NYM. Do you have any speculations there?
