“You think about why we coach, you know? Right there at that basket where he’s walking toward me, right to my right is where he started. And now, this is where he ends up”. Houston Cougars coach Kelvin Sampson’s remarks highlighted his emotional side as he acknowledged J’Wan Roberts during the Senior Night ceremony back in March. After all, from nicknaming the player ‘The Wanderer’ due to Roberts’ previous oblivious nature, to watching him carve out a five-season-long career with the Houston Cougars, the coach couldn’t help but feel nostalgic. Having played over 171 games for the team, and totalled 1256 points and 1033 rebounds, very few have given more to the Cougars than J’Wan Roberts. His average score of 9.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists during the March Madness series also helped the team reach the Final Four for only the 2nd time since 1984.
Given the years he has devoted to college basketball, you would think that J’Wan Roberts secured quite a few NIL deals to his name, right? Well, read on to find out where he exactly stands in terms of deals.
SH1: What are J’Wan Roberts’ NIL deals as of 2025?
According to On3, J’Wan Roberts did get to sign multiple NIL deals throughout his tenure with the Houston Cougars. He first partnered with FanBasis back in June 2022. This was followed by a NIL Deal with The Fritz Kennel, a daycare facility and Locally owned dog boarding site located in Houston, Texas.
One of Roberts’ most significant NIL signings was with BB’s Tex-Orleans. It prides itself on being a Houston Cajun restaurant, and New Orleans-themed kitchen, with a unique Texas twist. It features selections inspired by Cajun food. He announced the partnership back in November 2022 by taking to Instagram and revealing “I am excited to announce my partnership with @bbstexorleans !! The best Cajun restaurant in Houston! Stay tuned and come check out me and the team as we will be your special guest waiters at select BB’s location’s on November 17th…GO COOGS!”.
That same month, Roberts signed a deal, along with several of the Houston Cougars players, with Houston’s Gallery Furniture. The owner, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, took home a $75 million sports betting win in the World Series less than a month ago back then. Probably looking to make some good use of those gains, Mclngvale pledged seven figures to Houston men’s basketball players in a partnership through the NIL collective LinkingCoogs. Back then, the Cougars were the second-ranked team in the nation. They had come off of their first back-to-back Elite Eight appearances since the early 1980s.
In December 2022, Roberts benefitted again from a collective NIL deal after the Houston squad agreed to team-wide NIL deals with Daspit Law Firm. LinkingCoogs again facilitated the deals, which were reported to be worth six figures in total. Speaking of LinkingCoogs, Houston’s NIL collective initiative also promoted little limited edition drop/products featuring the player from time to time.

Both ‘Rivals’ and ‘247Sports’ listed Roberts as a 3-star recruit. During his senior year, he was named to TABC Class 6A All-State Team, and recognized as District 12-6A Most Valuable Player. He led the Grey Wolves to district championship with a 15-1 record and notably made 30 points in bi-district round of playoffs against Rockwall-Heath.
What is J’Wan Roberts’ net worth and salary?
Not much is known about J’Wan Robert’s net worth. The player does not have a fixed salary yet. After all, he still plays at the collegiate level.
In five seasons, J’Wan Roberts has created an impression unlike any other. As much as Kelvin Sampson got emotional, we know that he won’t be the only one who will miss the player once he leaves the team. If the ongoing March Madness series is going to be his last, then the player should make things count.
