Remember when American ace Danielle Collins gave a special shout-out to her dog Quincy last year? “Yeah, I have never made the final of a tournament having my dog here. That has had a positive impact, for sure. I’m learning that my weeks are better with Mr. Q,” Danimal said after her thrilling win over Sorana Cîrstea in the Miami Open 2024 final. More than just a pet, Quincy is Collins’ confidante, her good luck charm, and, in her words, the true MVP behind her triumphs. Now, as she looks to move past this year’s heartbreak in the Miami Open, the American embarks on her Charleston Open journey with her furry best friend by her side again. Has Mr. Q got another shoutout?
Collins began her 2025 Miami Open campaign with promise, confidently dispatching Sorana Cîrstea and Rebeka Masarova in the early rounds. However, her title defense came to an abrupt halt at the hands of the eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka in the Round of 16. The Belarusian was simply unstoppable, overpowering Collins in straight sets. The stats from the match tell the story as Sabalenka fired 23 winners, including seven aces, while keeping her unforced errors limited to just 12.
But rather than dwelling on disappointment, Collins is embracing a fresh start. Leaving Miami’s heartbreak behind, she now sets her sights on the Charleston Open, this time with a little extra support. From her most loyal travel companion – Mr. Q.
Just a while back, Danielle Collins took to IG to share a glimpse of her road trip to the Charleston Open, and she wasn’t traveling alone. A brief but touching video showed Mr. Q, her cherished pet, seated at the car window. Quincy’s fluffy fur gently moved in the breeze during their drive. Collins captioned it perfectly: “Off to Charleston with Mr. Q.”
This is not the first tournament where Quincy is accompanying Collins. Last year, after winning the Miami Open, Collins revealed her real motivation behind the title win. “Just wanted to do a very quick PSA! This year’s Miami Open MVP goes to my very handsome, very sophisticated, smart, loving, charismatic, ball of energy, my favorite son… Mister Q! Quincy, I don’t know what I would do without you. I love you, sir,” she wrote on Instagram.
Mr. Q has long been Danielle Collins’ MVP both on and off the court, and this year’s Miami Open was no exception either. The tennis ace proudly shared a picture of her beloved pup on her IG profile during the tournament, captioning it, “MVP Quincy is in the House! .” But Quincy isn’t just her courtside cheerleader, he’s also her advisor for little decisions.
After her Caribbean getaway post-AO, Collins was back home, spending quality time with her furry best buddy. In a heartwarming IG story, she shared, Quincy was seen sitting beside a roll of wallpaper, helping Danimal with home décor. “This handsome man helping me make wallpaper decisions,” she wrote. It was followed by an adorable close-up of Quincy, captioned, “This face.”
But now, Quincy isn’t the only four-legged rockstar in Danimal’s family. Collins recently introduced her new furry companion: Crash.
“Quincy now has a new brother” —Danielle Collins adopted another dog during the Miami Open
Danielle Collins’ Miami Open title defense ended in the R16, but it was her off-court kindness that truly stole the spotlight. After her win over Rebeka Masarova, the 31-year-old shared a touching story about a stray dog she found injured on the road. Without hesitation, she rushed the pup to the hospital, ensuring days of treatment. And in a heartwarming twist, she officially welcomed the rescued pup, Crash, to her family.
Taking to her IG a couple of days ago, Collins wrote, “Crash update: Crash is recovering and finally out of the hospital after 5 days on oxygen support. His breathing is back to normal, his wounds are healing, and he is definitely enjoying all the love he is receiving. He is curious, affectionate, and grateful for a second chance at life. It was so incredibly painful to witness a dog in so much pain after being hit by a car, and left in the middle of the road with so many people driving by his curled up body. I’m just grateful I was able to be there and get him the care he needed.”
The post further read, “I have officially adopted him and Quincy now has a new brother! Once he finishes recovering he will be attending school thank you to everyone who prayed for CrashAlso a massive thank you to the wonderful team of veterinarians that took care of Crash and helped him receive the best possible care!”
As Collins prepares to defend her Charleston Open title, will Mr. Q’s courtside presence once again bring her the champion’s luck? What do you think?
