“Just dropped his stock from a 6th round pick to a 7th.” – “I would hate if my team drafted this fraud.” – “I wouldn’t want Carson Beck. Not because this comment but because he s–ks.” When the UGA ship went down in Tuscaloosa, all he-l broke loose. See, picking up the mantle after Georgia comes off the 2022 natty high was no effortless task – you either get UGA fans another national championship or fade away trying. Carson Beck, however, was pitch perfect. Somewhere, we felt he managed to raise the bar Stetson Bennett had set after the Bulldogs’ 2022 conquest. “I want to go throw a perfect game…Like, 30-40, four touchdowns. I mean, that’s what I was thinking about walking into the stadium,” Carson Beck had once said.
But what happens when all hopes get dashed and Georgia’s 2024 run stands as a hollow shell of its former self?
“I just would see and feel the weight of the world on this guy’s back… It’s almost like you just wanted to put your arm around Carson Beck… And you know, he told me, after the, I can’t remember what game it was? It might have been Alabama… He’s, like, I can handle that, like, my mom getting stuff thrown in, her trying to get to the locker room, and people yelling and throwing and cussing at her. And that’s Georgia fans,” Kirk Herbstreit points out on Built 4 More. When you’re at Georgia, suddenly, the new standard is “we only win national championships,” and albeit Beck set the bar high after Bennett’s departure, to go so much and cuss at his mother?
That is unacceptable – Now, we are not excusing Beck’s lackluster season. He made massive mistakes throughout the year with the deep throws, but are we really going to look past how tragic Georgia’s receiver room was? A quarterback cannot magically save your team when your receiver room can’t even catch a 20-yard pass.
And the Alabama game? Yes, Georgia was down 0-21 in the first quarter, but are we forgetting that Beck also managed to pull his team out of humiliation in the 3rd and 4th quarters? With some excellent drives, you got Georgia standing 34-33 against Bama.
We believe that this guy can still be redeemed, and his decision to switch to Miami is perfect. Remember what Mel Kiper said? “I think, you know, to me, you know, I think it’s important that these guys and I think they should go back.” One more year, a $4 million paycheck, and a change of scenery could be all Beck needs right now.
Waking up in Miami
“Carson is doing well. He’s running really fast. He’s not throwing the ba-l yet, but he’s very close to doing so, so he’s taking part in all that he can do. And he should be throwing soon, maybe in a couple of weeks or so.” That shoulder injury derailed the entire NFL plan Beck had in his head.
But somewhere, we feel that it might’ve been a blessing in disguise. Getting a second chance with the Canes could help Carson Beck recover the draft stocks and finally get the respect he deserves. The best part is, we are already spotting the QB taking part in the Canes’ early drills and pass actions.
“He fits the scheme with a very diversified passing game,” Hurricanes HC Mario Cristobal pointed out. Guys, let’s just give Beck a free pass. No, he didn’t “betray” Georgia. He just picked the route that is best for his NFL future.
Georgia fans, let’s not turn into that type of Buckeyes fans.
