It’s been over a decade since Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries’ whirlwind 72-day marriage made headlines, but somehow, their past still manages to resurface. Just recently, Kardashian brought their split back into the conversation by revealing an unexpected detail about her massive engagement ring. While their divorce was finalized in 2013, she now claims she paid for most of the emerald-cut rock herself. And as part of their settlement, she had to return it to Humphries.
“I didn’t keep that,” Kim Kardashian revealed on the March 13 episode of The Kardashian. “I was pregnant with North, still married to him, and in order to divorce him, he said I had to give him the ring in my divorce—that I bought, he contributed a fifth.”
The ring itself was auctioned off in 2013, fetching a hefty $749,000 at Christie’s. Despite attempts from E! News to get a comment from Humphries, he stayed quiet. However, while Kardashian spilled details about the past, Humphries remained silent on the matter. Instead, he’s been busy growing his business empire—in the fast-food industry.
Just recently, Humphries shared a major milestone on Instagram: the first store he owns of Dave’s Hot Chicken. Captioning the post, “My first baby,” he gave fans a glimpse into his growing business ventures. Back in 2022, he, along with his parents and cousin, signed on as franchisees with plans to open 10 locations. The North Loop was one of their top targets, and they’re just getting started.
But Humphries’ business mindset didn’t start overnight. Even while playing in the NBA, he was making moves in real estate. Now, he owns 17 franchises and is a key player in a $1 billion fast-food chain. And with no signs of slowing down, he’s already eyeing further expansion.
Kris Humphries is expanding Dave’s Hot Chicken franchise
It’s no surprise that Kris Humphries chose Minnesota for his first Dave’s Hot Chicken franchise. After all, he knows the area better than most. “I’m familiar with the area and went to Hopkins High School,” he told FOX 9. “We used to come over to the mall a lot after school, so I thought it would be cool to do the first one near where I used to go to school.”
Last year, his family announced plans to expand even further, bringing the Los Angeles-based chain to The Duffey at 528 N. Washington Ave. by early 2025. But they’re not stopping there. According to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, they expect to open a total of 18 locations across the state.
That kind of ambition is nothing new for Humphries. He’s always been about putting in the work, whether on the court or in business. “It’s a process—from day one to where we are today,” he explained. “Like training, every little detail takes so much time, but once you finally put it all together, it’s a celebration. At the same time, it’s like, ‘OK, what’s the next goal?’”
For him, it’s all about consistency. “In life, you are either getting better or worse, and I strive to get better. Life’s a journey, there’s no final destination.”
Interestingly, after launching the first location, Humphries is expanding fast. His family has already added stores in St. Paul and Apple Valley, with new spots coming soon in Coon Rapids, St. Cloud, and Rochester. And with previous success owning Crisp & Green and Five Guys franchises in Minnesota, Humphries is proving he’s got the business game figured out.
