“Immediate, immediate,” Lamont Roach Jr. asserted. He was speaking about the Gervonta Davis rematch in ‘Nightcap’s latest episode. During the conversation with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson, the super featherweight champion expressed hopes for an immediate rematch. His statement follows the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC)’s final verdict – the majority draw stays. It remains 30-0-1 for the Baltimorean. For it to become 30-1-1, a second fight is necessary.
On his part, Lamont Roach Jr., made it clear. In case it ended in a loss or a draw, the deal for the first fight incorporated the rematch clause. Though not affirming it outright, to settle their unfinished business, Gervonta Davis also sounded positive about the second match. That means Roach Jr. has a big task at hand. Irrespective of the fight coming soon or later after a few months, he knows what he’s getting into.
Lamont Roach Jr.: I’m going to elevate my game
Joining Gary Jonas on the Pro Box TV podcast, Lamont Roach Jr. spelled it out when the host asked, “Do you need to add more to this rematch? Do you think Gervonta Davis comes in more focused than he did last time? What’s your thought on the tactics of a rematch after this draw that was basically a victory for you and the eyes of the public?”

Roach Jr. acknowledged that despite his strong performance, he needs to do even more in a rematch. He planned to train harder, be more aggressive, and make sure he secured a decisive victory. “I have to push harder. I have to train harder. I have to be more mean. I have to be more physical. I have to do a lot,” he said.
To win the rematch, he needs to push himself harder in every aspect. He believes that putting in extra effort will give him the edge he needs to secure a clear victory. ‘The Reaper’ emphasized how motivated he was to get back to training and prove himself against an elite, pound-for-pound fighter like Gervonta Davis.
Gary Jones, echoed his motivation. According to the Pro Box TV’s founder, Roach Jr. is now even more determined to prove himself in the rematch. The super featherweight champion will defeat and officially give Davis his first loss. Winning the rematch will be a huge, well-deserved moment for Roach Jr.
It’s their call to make and resolve
Earlier, responding to Chad Johnson’s query about the rematch, Roach Jr. made the formalities crystal clear. “I signed for the immediate rematch when I signed for the first fight just in case he lost or just in case it was a draw, so they put that clause in there. They put a rematch clause in there, so I already signed the rematch clause,” said the Washington D.C. native.

The former wide receiver checked for an approximate timeline. Whether it’s going to be a 6-month or a year-long break before Roach Jr. and Davis regroup. The 130- pounds champion replied that it’s up to the ‘A-side.’ It’s for them to settle the matter. Otherwise, personally, he hoped that the rematch may soon converge.
What’s your take? Do you think the Roach-Davis rematch should happen soon? Also, do you foresee Roach Jr. finally securing a victory?
