And with a .263 average, .371 OBP and a .897 OPS, along with ten home runs, the Cubs wouldn’t like to lose him.
Now, during an interview with the MLB Network, Jon Heyman remains optimistic about the Cubs-Tucker contract extension. “I talked to him this weekend. He didn’t talk about any potential talks. I understand that., But he didn’t say he is really enjoying the Cubs. No surprise there, so I do think he will listen. I do think the expectation is they will come to him this summer and try to figure it out.” And it’s somewhat true—the Cubs won’t let him go and become a free agent so easily; they’d rather lock him up for an extension.

Joy Heyman, heaping praise on the Cubs superstar, further said, “He is a superstar. He is one of a very small, select group of guys who have tens on bases and double digits in both categories. Ohtani is obviously one of them; CA, he made another. The guy has been fantastic for this team; he’s got a .890 OPS and they want to keep him.” But will that be easy?
Jon Heyman believes that it’s not going to be easy at all. With a few months to go, Kyle Tucker might follow the route of Garrett Crochet or Francisco Lindor. Both of them signed with teams with a year to go and there are some more players who did a similar thing as well. However, Heyman believes that “This is a guy I think will consider them if they make him the right offer.”
Can the Chicago Cubs make the right offer to Kyle Tucker?
Well, it’s too early to say at this point in time. However, according to Jeff Passan, Kyle Tucker has been much better, in terms of stats or overall, than the players who have fetched even higher contracts for extension. Passan compared Tucker with the Toronto Blue Jays superstar, Vladimir Guerrero Jr, who signed a massive fourteen-year, $500 million deal. And if Vladdy Jr can, then why not Kyle Tucker?
“He is one of baseball’s best power-speed combinations. Everything is there for Tucker to exceed $400 million. Surging past $500 million could be tough, but then no one anticipated Soto getting $765 million, either.” No need to sugarcoat anything, but it’s true – despite having massive amounts under their belt, none of them have lived up to the hype. While Vladdy Jr. posted only four home runs and 19 RBIs at a .291 average and .805 OPS, Juan Soto has been equally disappointing—he posted 8 home runs and 20 RBIs at a .255 average and .845 OPS.
So, there’s a high chance that Kyle Tucker is going to fetch a massive deal once he becomes a free agent. But being one of the reasons behind the Cubs standing in a prime position this season, it all boils down to what the Cubs’ owners are going to do.
