Legend Chris Evert Radiates Joy as She Gushes Hard Over Her Son’s Never-ending Love for Grandson

Chris Evert was just a teenager when she stepped onto the professional tennis scene and changed the game forever. More than 50 years later, she’s still a force to be reckoned with. The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion ruled from the baseline, built a successful career as an ESPN commentator, and became the face of the Evert Tennis Academy. She’s also been a devoted mother to her three sons. And now, at 70, the American tennis legend has stepped into another exciting role—of a grandmother’s. And she can’t help but share all the adorable grandson moments with her fans.!

Evert became a grandmother in May 2024, and she couldn’t be happier. Her son Nicholas and his wife, Rebecca, welcomed a baby boy, and the former World No. 1 shared her joy with fans. She posted a heartfelt picture with the newborn and his mother, writing, “My son Nicky and his wife Rebecca welcomed their first child, Hayden James, into this world last nite…Thanks for bringing more love into our family; so proud of you two.” Since then, Evert has been sharing glimpses of her life as a new grandma, giving fans a peek into this special chapter.

On February 22, 2025, Evert shared another sweet moment on Instagram. She posted a picture of Nicholas holding baby Hayden, captioning it simply, “Like father, like son.” The love and pride in her words were clear as she embraced her new role in the family.

Family has always been at the heart of Evert’s life. She has three sons—Alexander, Nicholas, and Colton—whom she shares with her ex-husband, Olympic skier Andy Mill. Nicholas, born in 1994, took a different path from his legendary mother. He co-hosts the Mill House podcast alongside his father. But despite choosing a career outside of tennis, he’s now a father himself, adding another layer of joy to the family.

Chris Evert shares being a grandmother behind her motivation to live after cancer

Chris Evert recently spoke about this exciting phase in an interview with BNPParibas.com. She had nothing but love for her daughter-in-law, Rebecca, calling her the “daughter she never had.” Watching her family grow has been a deeply fulfilling experience, and becoming a grandmother has added a new kind of joy to her life. “But having a grandchild is double the fun, because you’re also seeing your son being a father. Your child has become a father. Then I have this little grandson. It’s wonderful. I will be, for sure, a fun grandmother. I will right around as long as I can,” she said.

That last line carries extra weight because Evert knows better than most what it means to fight for more time.

The American tennis legend is as tough off the court as she was on it, having battled cancer twice. In 2023, Evert revealed that her ovarian cancer had returned two years after her initial diagnosis. Determined to beat it again, she underwent treatment with the same resilience that defined her career. In a recent conversation with The New York Times, she spoke about her fight against the disease—and how her grandson has given her even more motivation. “I’m in love with this little baby already. It makes me want to live even more,” she said.

For a woman who built a career on grit and determination, this new chapter is just another reason to keep pushing forward. Can anything slow down Chris Evert?
