“Holy s—, I need to poop! Holy f—!” Loopy Godinez exclaimed as she headed into the second round against Julia Polastri at UFC Mexico City last weekend. It’s not every day you hear such an outburst inside the Octagon, but a sudden stomach disturbance seemed to shake the Mexican fighter. Despite the unexpected confession, the bout quickly turned into one of the most memorable clashes in recent women’s MMA. However, as the second round commenced, Godinez was visibly far from all right.
After two rounds of dominance against the Brazilian, Loopy Godinez felt some discomfort in her stomach, which prompted her to utter those words. Her coach laughed it off and stated that she needed to drag herself five more minutes and that she could do whatever she wanted. This interaction between the fighter and her coach was captured by the cameras, and as it was live, fans started calling her “Poopy Godinez.”
Well, quite a name she’s got there. Regardless, she has come forward to clarify why she said those words during her conversation with SiriusXM Fight Nation. “In the second round, my stomach just felt weird because I felt like I had a bug. After the wins, when I started hydrating myself and eating again, my stomach never felt normal. But as you can say, I kept thinking, “Oh my God, that’s gonna go away. It’ll go away in the morning when the fight happens.”
The fighter explained that she had been experiencing this discomfort for days leading up to her fight but chose not to say anything to anyone, as she didn’t want to cancel her bout against Polastri in her homeland. “So, I woke up, and my stomach was still weird. I got to the arena, changed into my clothes, and my stomach still felt off. I was in the bathroom, you know, doing whatever, and I thought, “I’ll be fine. The adrenaline will kick in. But then, in the second round, my stomach felt like grrr, and it just came out. That’s it
Despite the challenging circumstances, Loopy Godinez dominated her opponent for all three rounds, securing a unanimous decision victory. And her victory was like a living her dream moment for her. How? Let’s find out.
Loopy Godinez ‘living the dream’ with her UFC career
After riding a tough fight-winning streak in UFC, Loopy Godinez was marred by two back-to-back defeats, which shook her confidence in competing ever again. Godinez didn’t even think that the UFC would give her another chance to fight but fate had other plans for her. As she was pitted against Julia Polastri, she knew that she had to win – if not for herself, then at least for her people.
The crowd’s chants echoed in support of the Aguascalientes-born Godinez, a reception the 31-year-old strawweight fully anticipated on her home turf, and she delivered, winning decisively. After the victory, Godinez at the post-fight press conference emphasized, “I wasn’t surprised. I knew it was going to be a crazy night. I know I have all the Mexicans behind me, and I wasn’t wrong.”
She further added, “I don’t put stress like that on myself, because I’m living the dream. I knew because I had such a great training camp and I knew how it went and how I was doing in my training camp, I knew I was going to get the win tonight.” With a fight winning streak alive again and backing her up, the strawweight fighter needs to capture some more wins before challenging the champion Zhang Weili. What are your thoughts on the hubbub? Will she manage to come alive in her next clashes, or is doomsday awaiting her?
