Made to Swallow a Bitter Pill, Terence Crawford Reveals His Biggest Strength Against Canelo Alvarez

In the end, it always comes down to the size. There have been lots of talks regarding the upcoming blockbuster fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford in September. It is one fight that has divided the boxing community down the middle. Both pound-for-pound kings have proven themselves in multiple divisions. However, while predicting the fight, almost everyone has the same doubt: Can Terence Crawford overcome the massive 16-pound weight difference?

While veterans like Julio Cesar Chavez and Mikey Garcia strongly believe that the massive size difference will be too much for the 37-year-old to bridge, there are still those who believe that Bud has enough skills to negate Canelo’s size advantage. And looks like he is in dialogue with them all, as the Nebraskan took to his Instagram to share a workout clip to show that the fight is not as easy to call as many think.

Terence Crawford brushing off the ring-rust

On Friday, the two-division undisputed champion took to his Instagram to post a video of his first workout in a while. Ever since his last fight against Israil Madrimov in August last year, Bud has been focusing on sizing up and the Canelo Alvarez fight’s negotiations. So, expectedly, he was away from the boxing ring for a while. From his moves, it doesn’t look like there is much ring rust that he needs to dust off. Crawford captioned the video, “I hear em talking, just know that. Feels good to be back in the gym.,” claiming that he remains unbothered by the chatter and is happy to be back working on his skills. Something which was evident in the video, as Crawford still looked on the top of his game with his trademark lightning-fast feet.

It looks like the Nebraskan has taken away the one concern his fans had when he posted a story of him walking at a career-heaviest 186 lbs a few weeks ago. Even Mikey Garcia was worried about the weight the 37-year-old had put on so quickly, claiming that the extra weight might take away the one thing he has over Canelo Alvarez—his fast footwork.

However, it looks like even Terence Crawford knows that he can’t win this fight alone by bulking up. Furthermore, the workout video has also revived fans’ trust in the WBA junior middleweight champion.

Chasing greatness ain’t new for Bud

Former welterweight champion and boxing veteran Zab Judah commented, “,” on the video showcasing how impressed he was by the footwork Bud showcased. As a former two-division champion, Judah knows how important it is to maintain a consistent speed across multiple divisions.

A fan commented, “If u win hands down the greatest ever jump from 135 to 168 .” According to the fan, if Terence Crawford wins against Canelo Alvarez, he will establish himself as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers of all time.

Another fan wrote, “The most complete fighter of this era.” Well, if you look at Bud’s resume and everything he has achieved so far, you can’t argue much with the comment. After all, not everyone can win multiple world titles in four divisions. Another fan who was impressed by the practice session wrote, “The footwork and angles looking sharp.”

While everyone was praising Terence Crawford, a fan reminded him how hard it would be against Canelo in September. He wrote, “Definitely a great fighter, but good luck with Canelo man I was gonna be a toughest fight in your life.”

That said, Terence Crawford is in deep preparation mode for his showdown with Canelo Alvarez. While at one point, it looked like he would focus on size only, it looks like he knows that his best shot will be by outboxing the Mexican legend.
