Hailing from Culpeper, Virginia, Maliq Brown had a fervor for sports growing up. Athletically gifted, he was good at both basketball and football. However, if you guessed his ‘favorite Michael’ at the time to be Jordan, you’re in for a surprise as he deeply admired former Eagles QB Michael Vick, who once played for Virginia Tech. Maliq continued playing football till his sophomore year, after which injuries propelled him to choose basketball over everything else.
“We tried to put a basketball in his corner at the age of 6 or 7. He was like, ‘I don’t like it. It’s boring.’ I think it was just too easy for him. He was always the fastest kid out there. He would just take the ball away from everybody,” his mum Tasha recalled.
Lucky for us, Maliq eventually chose the hoop! So, how’s he been doing?
What are Maliq Brown’s NIL deals as of 2025?
Currently, Maliq Brown has no NIL deals to his name, at least not to our knowledge. This doesn’t necessarily mean he does not have any individual NIL deals, as these tie-ups can be of a private nature, till details are revealed by any one of the parties involved. Duke Blue Devils do have an NIL store of their own where fans can purchase player merch. It acts as a steady source of income and the players can earn money on every purchase and build the foundation of their ‘personal brand’ simultaneously.
Interestingly, Maliq Brown’s decision to transfer to Duke also impacted his NIL, as revealed by his mother. However, the priorities never changed. Tasha told The Daily Progress, “We feel good about his final decision. He had many great suitors, but we trust his decision with his selection. Maliq had a lot of great NIL options but knew big money at this time was not his ultimate goal.”
Though it is surprising that a player of his talent is not earning the amount he actually can bring in via NIL, playing for Duke is sure to get him more coverage and give him opportunities to increase his draft stock.
Which high school did Maliq Brown attend?
Brown attended the prestigious Blue Ridge School in Dyke, Virginia. A school well known for its competitive basketball program, he won 4 State Championships there. As a freshman, Maliq had to shuttle between Varsity and JV teams, but it was his defensive and rebounding abilities that got him prime minutes on the team. He was surrounded by scouting gems, yet he shone the brightest among them.
In senior year, Maliq averaged 15.4 points and 11.1 rebounds per game as the captain of Blue Ridge. His individual play was just as excellent. He also made the All-Conference team for his consistent performances throughout the season.
While Brown’s stats were impressive, his real impact could be felt on the defensive end. “They’re not having the season that they’re having this year because he’s not there. It’s a gaping hole now here in the inside position, and they can’t press like they used to be able to press with Maliq,” said Peter Cole, Brown’s faculty advisor at Blue Ridge. “He was instrumental in 4 state championships in a row.”
Maliq Brown then committed to Syracuse where he led the team in rebounds and received the prestigious ACC All-Defensive honors as a sophomore. But Syracuse’s inability to reach the National Championship remained a thorn in his success. In 2024, he used the transfer portal to fulfill his Duke dream. The cherry on top: He happens to be playing alongside the best player in the draft class!
What is Maliq Brown’s net worth and salary?
Not much information has been disclosed publicly about Maliq Brown’s net worth yet. He still plays at the college level and the NCAA prohibits its teams from paying a salary to the players. The NCAA does, however, allow its athletes to earn through NIL deals, but the private nature of these deals also means an accurate net worth of the player cannot be calculated at the time.
