Bad news for the Mariners! The Seattle Mariners have landed in big trouble owing to an injury to their $9.75 million player. That’s a worrying sign for them, as Victor Robles injured himself while taking a slider to the wrist during the fourth-plate appearance on Saturday. While manager Dan Wilson seemed optimistic that Robles would return to the field soon, is that really possible?
Unlikely! Robles was going through significant pain during the plate appearance. He had an excellent previous season where he posted 328/.393/.467 slash line, posting four home runs and 30 steals across the 77 games he played. Now, as he was pushed to exit early during the spring training on Saturday, he would undergo several tests. Although it seems like it’s not too serious, he may still be ready for Opening Day. Now, there’s a big question mark looming over the Seattle Mariners.
Seattle Times beat reporter Ryan Divish posted on X about what the Mariners’ manager said about Victor Robles’ injury. “Dan Wilson sounded optimistic that Victor Robles would be OK after getting hit by a pitch. Robles will still have to undergo an X-ray and possibly other tests.” So, going by what Dan Wilson says, despite Victor Robles’ early exit, he has avoided a much worse injury. He will likely make his way, missing a couple of days, and then will be ready by the opening day.

Well, the ball hit him on his hand directly, and Robles had to put the bat down and started hopping around in pain, accompanied by discomfort that hindered his play. Robles seemed visibly frustrated. However, he would undergo certain tests and X-rays to check for a broken bone or torn ligament. But it’s not the first time the Seattle Mariners got such a scare. Earlier, a ball struck Mitch Garver’s hand. Although he didn’t suffer for long, and made his way back into the mound after a week.
Losing out on Victor Robles might be a big setback, as he has been the Mariners’ leadoff hitter and right fielder. With an injury like this, there would undoubtedly be a major gap that might require some roster change.
Seattle Mariners look to make some major roster moves amid the injury scare
As the Seattle Mariners approach closer to Opening Day, their lineup has been affected by the injuries of some major players. Thus, the Mariners are looking to make some moves in their roster. And that’s to ensure that they acquire the desired balance in their lineup. The Mariners have sent their outfielder, Dominic Canzone, and infielder, Austin Shenton, to Triple-A. And that’s while their pitchers, Shintaro Fujinami and Logan Evans, have been moved to the minor league.
The Seattle Mariners aim to trim their roster from 39 to 26 players. They want to rely heavily on their starting outfield. And that’s by boasting players like Julio Rodriguez and Randy Arozarena. However, Victor Robles may not make the cut due to his injury. Despite that, Luke Raley’s presence in the outfield and the inclusion of utility players like Dylan Moore also pave the way for the Mariners to maintain good depth in their lineup. In addition to this depth, Austin Shenton could also offer flexibility, as he could play at first or third base. However, with so many players on the list with exceptional talent, the decision to prepare the final roster might be a little bit challenging for the Mariners.
