Carson Beck, a name taken with hushed tones and frowning voices in the streets of Athens. The QB, who was promised to deliver a natty for the Dawgs, sneakily departed to the Miami Hurricanes after showing the cards of ‘pro football’. Beck is currently the antithesis of a hero in Georgia who, according to the Dawg Nation, sacrificed his legacy for an added pay bump ($4 million to be precise) and union with his girlfriend, with whom he is rumored to have broken up now. The QB, on the other hand, is looking to ignore these voices and write another chapter in his story that suffered a hiccup last season.
Beck threw for 3,485 yards at an efficiency of 64.7% with 29 touchdown involvements. Still, the season was a downgrade from his previous one, where the QB produced more than 4,000 yards at a stellar 72.4% completion rate. But, despite the downgrade, the QB didn’t get the luxury of playing under players like Brock Bowers, who arguably is one of the greatest tight ends in UGA history. Instead, what he got was a receiving unit plagued with drops, finishing first in dropping catches (36). Can anyone fault Beck now if he chose to switch camps?
Now that Beck is with Miami, he has still brought the looming injury with him. An injury that he suffered against the Longhorns to his throwing arm. The crises not only put questions on Beck’s abilities to deliver on his 2023 level. But also raises questions about Mario Cristobal’s $4 million gamble. After all, Beck had to undergo surgery in December to repair the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) damage he had, which fueled the concerns. But now, the QB seems to be back.

After watching the entirety of the spring practices from the sidelines and observing plays, Mario Cristobal has finally announced Beck’s arrival. “He’s there. It’s ready,” Cristobal told CBS Sports. “Since we’re at the end of spring ball, we just took the extra precaution to (wait) another week. I’m really, really impressed with his knowledge of the game. His football IQ is off the charts. He’s done everything regarding the ball. The only thing he hasn’t done is actually throw“. And, now that the QB is fit to throw, he will have some exciting players to rely on.
Miami has roped in a talented wide receiver from LSU, CJ Daniels. He will be joining the Canes after 4 seasons with the Liberty Flames and the last season at LSU, in which the WR notched up 480 receiving yards after coming off a 1,000+ yards season with the Liberty Flames. Other players like Joshisa Trader will look to make their mark as he featured in 3 games last season. Joshua Moore, the 2025, 94.14 ON3 rated WR, will also look to make his mark as he is currently the 13th-ranked wide receiver in his class. Other players like Ny Carr, Malachi Toney, and Daylyn Upshaw would also be used sporadically in backup roles. However, it won’t be a surprise if Mario Cristobal taps into the transfer portal to add some more wide receivers to his roster.
Concerns for Carson Beck even after recovering?
Despite the optimism-filled news for Beck and Miami supporters. There are still questions surrounding the QB’s ability to throw at his previous level. We have seen QBs losing their ‘touch’ after coming off a short injury. Just ask the Longhorns fans about Quinn Ewers, and you will know. In the case of Beck, it was a massive injury, a season-ending injury, a complication that even required surgery. So, will Beck be able to match Cam Ward’s heroics?
CFB Insider Bruce Warner, a.k.a. ‘The Truth Teller’, wondered quite bluntly about Beck’s abilities after he recovers from his injury. “When Beck gets here, it’s still going to be the question – Is he locked in with these guys? Are they on the same page? You know Ward got here early last year and worked with these guys, and look at what happened”.
Well, the injury concerns could alleviate some of the concerns Beck had last season. For instance, Beck finished with the most interceptions in the SEC for Georgia, which was a massive downgrade. Since no other QB has had this many interceptions for Georgia since 2012. Then there were concerns about the QB not being ‘world-class’ and the only reason he performed was because of the elite nature of the 2023 roster at Georgia. All these concerns would be there. But, to eliminate all of them, Beck needs to throw and deliver on Cam Ward’s level consistently for the season.
