Mario Cristobal and Miami are making big moves. With spring football in full swing, the Canes just wrapped up March with a one-two punch that could set the tone for the program’s future. First, they landed a massive commitment, literally. A 6’6, 310-pound OT out of Fort Myers who was a previous Louisville commit. But Miami wasn’t done. They also made a coaching addition that could serve them well in the long run.
Miami insider Gaby Urrutia dropped a huge recruiting update on the Canes’ coaching front. In a new X post on March 30, he posted a report by 247Canes — “Miami has added former Michigan assistant tight ends coach Jack Clark as an analyst. While at Ann Arbor, Clark worked with tight ends like Colston Loveland, AJ Barner, and Luke Schoonmaker.” Jack Clark is a Michigan man through and through spending years studying and coaching in Ann Arbor.

Jack Clark finished his education at the University of Michigan from 2016-2021. But by 2018, he was a head football recruiting analyst intern. In 2021, he moved on to serve as Player Personnel Analyst and Defensive Recruiting Coordinator for one year. Then, from 2022 to 2024, he was the Wolverines’ offensive analyst before getting the role of assistant TE coach in April 2024. And now, he’s bringing his expertise to Coral Gables.
For Mario Cristobal, recruiting isn’t just about players. It’s about building a powerhouse from the ground up. The Canes are gearing up for a massive recruiting weekend. With Ohio State commit Chris Henry and top-100 receiver Zion Robinson among the big talents present on campus, Miami’s momentum is undeniable. No wonder they landed one of the elite prospects who couldn’t hide his excitement over the Canes’ first fully padded scrimmage on Saturday.
Mario Cristobal lands Joel Ervin
3-star Joel Ervin was among the prospects present at Coral Gables who pledged his commitment on March 29. The top-100 OT shut down his recruitment after seeing the Canes’ intensity up close. “The moment I decided was after today,” he told CaneSport. “Just seeing how much of an impact Coach Mirabel makes on those guys. And just seeing those guys compete made me want to be a Hurricane… I’m going to shut down my recruitment. I’m really excited, and I can’t even express it.” Spoken like someone who can’t wait to get started.
Joel Ervin is the seventh commitment in Miami’s 2026 class. As a junior, he was named to the News-Press 2024 All-Area Offensive First Team. He helped his team average over 300 yards per game on offense to reach their first district title in five years. With 23 offers, he was previously scheduled to officially visit Miami, Kentucky, Florida, and USC over the summer. But he won’t be making those trips now.
Miami’s 2026 class currently ranks 15th in the nation according to 247Sports. If Mario Cristobal keeps making moves like this, that number is only going to go up.
