Last month, BMF champion Max Holloway won the battle against Dustin Poirier as ‘The Diamond’ bid farewell to the UFC, but this month, the Hawaiian star won a personal battle. For over half a decade, ‘Blessed’ had been engaged in a custody battle for his son, Rush, after separating from his ex-wife, Kaimana Pa’aluhi. The battle is finally over and done with, and Holloway won, and not only him, but his current wife, Alessa Quizon, also felt relieved.
In a long statement on Instagram, Max Holloway reluctantly shared his personal issues with his fans and followers, which he normally doesn’t do. He revealed his struggle for his son’s custody and the favorable outcome in court. Holloway claimed that he and his wife, Alessa Quizon, were always his son’s favorite, and while praising his son for making his voice heard and choosing to stay with them, he also shared praise for his significant other. “Usually I don’t share much about my personal life, but this I want to share,” said the BMF champion.
“I just won the hardest fight of my life. It’s been 5 years of dealing with custody battles, and now we finally get to close that difficult chapter. Rush has voiced many times on how he wanted Alessa to adopt him. Yesterday, Alessa got to adopt Rush as his legal mother,” Max Holloway further stated. “Thank you to my wife for doing more than stepping up. For coming in and accepting Rush as your own. Thank you for holding Rush together as a mother would, helping me make our son’s dreams come. Thank you for pouring in all of your love and energy into completing our family.”
Alessa Quizon would react to the news on Max Holloway’s Instagram post, revealing the emotional rollercoaster ride the couple had been on. Having become Rush’s legal mother, she wrote, “I love you Rush very much. This has been a hard and difficult road for us all. Through the heartbreaks and uncertainties, at least we can finally give our son the life and love he truly deserves. For those who you, YOU KNOW. Thank you god and for everyone who’s been in rushs corner.”
In addition to that, Max Holloway’s wife also shared a message on her Instagram story. She appeared grateful to her adopted son for choosing to stick with her and his father, while also adding a blunt statement for people with negative remarks. “Thank you, God, and to everyone who’s been in Rush’s corner every step of the way. What’s understood doesn’t need to be explained,” Alessa Quizon added.
Well, the custody battle couldn’t have ended at a better time because now, Max Holloway has a lot of time to celebrate the occasion and spend time with his entire family. That’s because the BMF champion is out for the rest of the year due to a “stupid” injury. Here’s what we know.
Max Holloway is sidelined for the rest of 2025
‘Blessed’ may have put on a classic against Dustin Poirier at UFC 318, but that win came at a cost. Max Holloway recently claimed that he’d prefer a title shot next, but he injured his hand during his maiden BMF title defense last month. As such, a 2025 return will not be possible, but in the meantime, Holloway wishes to sit back and see how the lightweight division shapes up when this year comes to a close.
“If I get the next title shot, that’d be sick, but if you have hopes of me fighting before the end of the year, probably not going to happen,” Max Holloway stated on his YouTube channel. “I already met with my doctor, now I’ve got to go meet the specialist, but things are not looking up for me fighting one more time this year. So all of that fight talk is still on, so we just get to see how the [lightweight division] is going to pan out.”
The injury setback doesn’t look like it’s a problematic one because the recent personal victory is likely to outweigh his medical issues. With his son becoming a permanent part of his family, it will be interesting to see if he grows up to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a fighter in the future.
