Max Homa Under Fire as Social Media Confession Backfires After Bay Hill Disappointment

The 6x PGA Tour winner, Max Homa, had successful runs back in 2023 with three wins, including one at the DP World Tour. Since then? Nothing. There were three Top-10s last year, including a contention for the Masters Tournament. But this year, his peak came at The Sentry with T26 and T14 at Nedbank Golf Challenge. And he is aware of it. Even said, “Golf does not like me at the moment,” after missing the cut at the Phoenix Open. Undoubtedly, fans are upset. Even then, they expected some good performance from the American golfer at Bay Hills. It hasn’t been that great.

Despite that, the 34-year-old golfer maintained his name in the major headlines with one weapon in his hands: X. And now, he is leaving even that behind. After Tuesday night’s TGL match, reporters asked him if he would return to X now that he will have more time on his hands. The answer is a blunt “no.”

Homa confessed that he didn’t like the app very much. “No, I think I’ve finally had a come-to-Jesus moment that it’s for the sick. I was sick. I’m just trying to get healthy now. I have not enjoyed that app. It’s not very fun. It’s fun to watch out little highlights or lowlights, and that stuff is fun. The rest of it’s probably not great, so I’m going to stick to TikTok.” But this wasn’t the first time. Back in January, he confessed that he feels X is awful.

The thing is, Max Homa is a beloved personality on X. If you are asking why, let us quickly give you a glimpse. Homa became popular on X for ruthlessly torching random people’s golf swings. His fans would often tag him in their videos of them hitting the balls, and Homa would take it upon himself to reply with a funny message and share it with his 600k+ followers. But it’s not just extended to fans. Last year, LPGA host Hope Barnett posted a video of her swing and tagged Homa for his opinion. Can you guess what the golfer replied? Well, “Is ur middle name Less?” That’s one of the many instances.

This is why the comments related to his performance are so brutal. When he announced he would be leaving the app, it made some noise. Then, he played at the Arnold Palmer Invitational (65), and the attention shifted to something else entirely.

Golf Digest’s Christopher Powers shared Homa’s performance and added this: “Max Homa was tied for the lead after 36 holes of the 2024 Masters. Finished T-3 after going 73-73 on the weekend. Since then has gone [his positions]. Currently +5 thru 7 at Bay Hill, beating only Aldrich Potgieter. Genuinely wonder if the weekend at Augusta National broke this man.”

For a quick look. Homa’s best performance last year came at the Masters Tournament (T3), with three overall Top-10s. 2023 was better with two wins, including twelve top-10s and one win at the DP World Tour. So, how are people reacting to that single statement? Well, awfully.

Fans are not very impressed with Max Homa

This “take a look back at this, guys” post immediately garnered a ton of similar reactions from the golf fans. One particularly harsh comment said, “Homa, Young, Sunjae all frauds.” This user’s target was not just Homa but also Cameron Young and Im Sungjae, both of whom are performing at the Arnold Palmer in the same manner. Young is currently positioned at 50, with a score of 61. Im Sung-jae is currently at T28 with a score of 67.

Is the next comment just as harsh? Yes. “And he somehow made the Presidents Cup team .” Homa made it into the President’s Cup twice (2022, 2024). The first time, he was a perfect 4-0. The second time, it didn’t go that well. He lost his first two matches but capped off the week with a 2 and 1 win over Mackezie Hughes. After he was selected, he said, “I don’t think [form is] necessarily overrated, but I do think experience in this matters. I’ve proven myself, and I’ve shown in these microscope stages I’ve done quite well.”

There’s another: “Called himself a dog and hasn’t been the same.” This one again hints at his Masters Tournament performance. How? Let’s quickly go through it. Last year, Homa was in great form, even seeing shoulder-to-shoulder with Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler at one point. He ended up receiving a lot of praise for his strong performance, and that’s when he called himself “dog.” “I came here with the gratitude and appreciation that I get to do it. I’m happy I get to do it tomorrow. I’m going to remind myself I’m a dog and I’m ready for this moment.” Clearly things haven’t been as strong for him.

The next two replies are identical, indicating the same thing: Homa’s performance. The first one says, “He is broken,” and the second one says, “Augusta finish broke him.” We have already taken a brief look at his previous years’ performance; however, let us look at last year’s Masters Tournament. We will keep it short.

Homa survived the 10th and 11th holes. However, his tee shot at 12 bounded off the putting surface and into a bush. Everyone looked for it, but it seemed to have mysteriously disappeared. Eventually, he had to take an unplayable lie. He then made double-bogey and lost his chance at it. It must have been disappointing to the young golfer.

But the 2025 season is still here. What do you think will happen next?
