Meet Carlos Sainz Jr, Golfer Teeing Up at Houston Open 2025: Personal Life, Career & Other Details Explored

We have a ‘Smooth Operator’ playing at the 2025 Houston Open. The first tournament of the Texas swing of the PGA Tour is scheduled for this weekend. The field for the Memorial Park Golf Course event is packed with some big names! Scottie Scheffler & Rory McIlroy will make their first appearance since THE PLAYERS Championship. This might also probably be their last event before the Masters. Rickie Fowler, Thomas Detry, and Jason Day will also be in Houston this week. But there is one name that has stood out from the final field. Maybe Formula 1 fans might be more familiar with him.

The final list of players for the Houston Open also includes Carlos Sainz Jr.! Before you get your hopes up, let us clarify that it’s not the Spanish racer who switched from Ferrari to Williams Racing. Although that would be a dream crossover for anyone who follows both sports. Golf also has a Carlos Sainz Jr. of their own. He is a 39-year-old from Chicago who has been with the PGA Tour since 2015.

Having turned pro in 2010, Sainz Jr. has tried his hand in many leagues. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour, PGA Tour Canada, and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. However, the 39-year-old has failed to find much success in his career. His only triumph came in 2013 in the Players Cup. He won the Canadian event by beating Nathan Tyler and the rest of the field with a -17. With so many years of experience, one would think the Chicago local might have many appearances under his belt.  Yet, Sainz Jr. has only played in 21 PGA Tour events. Out of the 21 appearances, he has only made the cut thrice. One of which was a top-10 finish. In fact, his last PGA Tour appearance was back in 2021, at the Valero Texas Open.

Apart from being a professional golfer, Sainz Jr. is also the Head of Golf Instruction at the Houston Oaks Country Club and Retreat in Hockley, Texas. He often shares videos of his young students practicing their swings and driving off from the tee zone. Sainz Jr. seems to love his job as an instructor, as he also posts the achievements of his students on his personal Instagram. Some of the golfers trained under him play in the Q-School at the moment.

Most recently, 31-year-old Callum McNeill finished T11 in the 2024 Q-School leaderboard and advanced to the finals. Unfortunately, he finished 152nd in the qualifying tournament. Lanto Griffin and 5 others finished at the top to get their PGA Tour card for 2025. McNeill also had a great run in the PGA Tour Canada as an amateur. During one of the tournaments, the Scottish golfer managed to score 12 birdies in a flawless round. His students have also played against John Daly II in the past.

The couple has since built a beautiful home filled with love and positivity. A year after they got hitched, the Sainz welcomed a beautiful young member to their family. Adriana (Adri) Rose Sainz was born in October 2023, bringing a lot of joy to the household.

Sainz Jr. often shares pictures of his wife and daughter on Instagram. He captures all their life milestones, adventures, and tender moments to share them with the world. Their most recent moment of celebration was the third anniversary of their marriage. Sainz Jr. shared pictures of him and Holly together over the years and how they have grown as a couple.
