Although the New York Mets lost their last game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, they did find a way to bring smiles to their heartbroken fans. They have pulled the curtain, giving a glimpse of how fans can witness their favorite players. And who doesn’t like some exclusive, off-the-field access!

The Mets have finally announced that they will be releasing two new docuseries named “On the Road” and “Inside the Diamond,” next week. And the hype is real…

Obviously, now, fans are eager to see what really happens behind the game. An amazing way to engage with fans! And well, the Mets have been doing such things for quite a while. Hope you remember the March 14 release of “The Pursuit,” talking about the biggest sports contract in history! 

This time, these two docuseries will feature the spring training scenes, game highlights, the preparation of players, and whatnot! Even the casual moments between the players and coaches. And that’s probably good enough for the fans to relate more to their players, whom they root for.

According to the Boardroom post on Instagram, it will be a mid-form YouTube series that will allow us to access everything, right from the start to the final game of the season. The “On the Road” series will dive deeper into the “nonstop grind of life [of players] away from home.” Be it the late-night flights or the early morning practice sessions, or even the logistics of the clubs across different time zones.

This time, it’s not just about contract signings or offseason drama, but literally everything we can ask for… And the main motive behind this is quite clear.

The Mets want to share the moments that are often missed by us in the excitement of just watching the games. And with that, fans can experience the raw emotions going through the players after winning or losing. Probably, bridging the gap – that’s what docuseries does, no? In fact, it may even serve the purpose of motivating the players to do their best and keep their fans happy, too.

Controversies followed the docuseries earlier

Some may argue that Major League Baseball would not have become as popular as it is now without its fair share of controversies. In fact, the community often gets glued to such conversations, engaging in heated debates. 

In April, Netflix and MLB worked together to bring the docuseries “The Clubhouse: A Year with the Red Sox,” which premiered globally. The much-awaited series was directed by four-time Emmy winner Greg Whiteley and produced by the collaboration of MLB Studios, Boardwalk Pictures Inc., and One Potato Productions.

The docuseries gave us a glimpse of the Boston Red Sox players, on and off the field. And also, how they managed to go through tough times across the 162 games in 2024. It was a banger. Not just because of the behind-the-scenes footage, which MLB never approved earlier, but also because it showed the grit of players and their zeal to win the games. That too, even in the darkest hours. And just as the fans were happy to see it, something derailed the campaign to an extent.

Soon, blame started pouring in for not showing several aspects of the clubhouse. Remember the way Jarren Duran shouted at fans using homophobic slurs just because he was having some mental health problems? The series showed nothing around that!
