Miami Insider Drops Big Carson Beck Update From Spring Practice After David Pollack’s Strong Verdict on Georgia’s QB Fate

Who’s the better QB—Carson Beck or Gunner Stockton? It’s a debate that will define Miami’s or Georgia’s 2025 college football season. We can easily point to the former as far as experience is concerned. But hold up, the 2025 season could be a wild twist. Beck, after an up-and-down time at Georgia, has transferred to Miami, hoping to revive his draft stocks. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are left at the mercy of his backup. But there’s good news for Stockton, who has to wait three years in Athens to get the starting nod. What about the new Canes QB?

Miami insider Christopher Stock delivered a key update from the Canes’ 10th spring practice on InsideTheU on April 2. The video highlighted Carson Beck’s early adjustment period with one notable observation. “Carson Beck… Can’t get a video but a photo of him wearing a black arm sleeve,” he noted. “It’s the first time I’ve seen him do that. So good to see him again, continuing to be out here.” While Carson Beck is seeing limited action due to his UCL surgery, Miami continues to expect big things from the former Dawg.

I think again all of that is going to be big or much bigger in the summer,” Stock added. “I think that goes without saying, but it’s going to be very interesting to hear how things go in the summer with Carson. Getting to know the guys kind of speeds up that process as much as possible.” His receivers are studying his film, eager to learn the tendencies before their season opener against Notre Dame.

Carson Beck’s arrival in Miami is one of the biggest storylines in the offseason. Once projected as a top NFL Draft pick, he had an inconsistent 2024 season in Athens. He posted an 11-2 record, throwing for 3,485 yards, 28 TDs, and 12 picks. A midseason slump—exacerbated by the departure of key targets like Brock Bowers and Ladd McKonkey—derailed his stock, leading him to transfer for a fresh start.

Despite the turbulence, Miami offers Carson Beck a promising reset. The Canes return four starters on the O-line, headlined by right guard and tackle Anez Cooper and Francis Mauigoa. They also strengthened their receiving corps with the acquisition of LSU transfer CJ Daniels. If Beck rediscovers his 2023 form, where he threw just six interceptions, Miami could emerge as a serious playoff contender. But let’s not leave Georgia in the dust.

David Pollack’s bold take on Gunner Stockton

While Carson Beck looks to reclaim his status, former Georgia DE David Pollack believes Gunner Stockton will have a better season than his predecessor did in 2024. “I think Gunner Stockton will have a better year this year than Carson Beck had last year,” he stated. The 22-year-old helped the Bulldogs in the SEC Championship victory against Texas. He delivered an impressive play in his first start against Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl loss, throwing for 234 yards and a touchdown.

Though Gunner Stockton saw limited playing time this past season, he impressed with a 70.3% completion rate for a total of 440 yards and one score. His potential coupled with his humility makes him an endearing player, especially to Pollack. “I don’t know that I’ve met a more humble kid, he is an easy kid to cheer for,” he added. If Stockton steps up, Georgia could remain dominant. But if Beck thrives in Miami, the Canes might have their best shot at a title in years.

Both Carson Beck and Gunner Stockton enter the 2025 season with something to prove. One seeking redemption, another aiming to make his mark. The stage is set for a compelling season.
