Micah Parsons Confirms Brutal ‘Reality Check’ From 2025’s Biggest Trade as $180M Payday Looms Large for Cowboys

Walk into an Ascension Coffee shop in Dallas, and you’ll see tall glass towers slowly brewing Japanese iced drip coffee. It takes 12 hours to filter before getting hit with nitrogen and served. A slow, careful process, right? Similarly, on the morning of January 7, that same kind of patience played out in a quiet corner of that coffee shop inside Hotel Crescent Court. Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison and Lakers GM Rob Pelinka met with each other to have a delicate trade conversation. And then nearly a month later, the sports world was hit with a news – Luka Dončić was traded from Mavericks to Lakers for Anthony Davis. A move that no one saw coming, including the NFL world and Micah Parsons.

ESPN Radio invited Dallas Cowboys’s star linebacker into the show. Micah Parsons, who has shown his talent consistently in the league, felt somewhat connected with Luka Dončić. Delighted on the opportunity, the host wasted no time to throw a question related to the NBA’s biggest trade of the year to the 25-year-old NFL player.

To which, Micah Parsons stated, “Uh, man! I was destroyed, bro. I couldn’t believe it.” No doubt, the rising star Luka Dončić’s trade to a new team has shaken up the world leaving the fans pinching themselves to make sure they are not dreaming. Similarly, Parsons faced the exact same situation on hearing the news. Hence, he expressed, “It’s terrible of how things can structure (based) on what happened. And you know, it kind of gives you a reality check for all players. You can’t let things get to you. You can’t think you are too high or too low…

After this trade, it seems Micah Parsons is convinced that anything can happen with anyone’s contract. He admitted that despite Dončić being five-time All-NBA First Team player, was traded to the Lakers. Hence, the Cowboys’s linebacker drew some similarity out of it. He mentioned, “Honestly, bro, we were the same age. I felt like I would say he was getting the city spot. We could have done great things together.”

While playing for Dallas, Luka Dončić led his team to the championship last year. Although they lost, the NBA star showed his potential for the future. Even Micah Parsons, being a Dallas player, wanted the NBA and NFL teams to together bring the victory. That’s why he referred to the situation as they “could have done great things together.” However, destiny had something else in mind. So, the NFL world is just left to talk about the trade.

However, as we are talking about Luka Dončić’s trade, how can we forget that Micah Parsons too will be awaiting a huge payout from his own team, the Cowboys? After all, Parsons himself has also pointed out that despite giving best anything could happen in the sports world.

It’s time for Micah Parsons to break the bank?

On June 9, 2021, Micah Parsons signed his four-year rookie contract with the Cowboys. Since then, he has been showing his consistency in the America’s Team uniform. In four years, the linebacker became a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro. Now, it’s the time for the Cowboys to repay him as he is set to hit the market this offseason.

The market! This market has now increased a lot. Ever since Nick Bosa has received his five-year, $170 million contract, the price tag has just gone higher. So, now as Micah Parsons is next in the row, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, he might re-sign a record-breaking extension with the franchise worth around $180 million. This means, Graziano predicted that the LB will receive approx $125 million guaranteed over four seasons.

That’s definitely a huge deal! And if Micah Parsons gets this, he will become the highest-paid defender and the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league. So, it remains to be seen when Jerry Jones picks up his pen to sign the cheque for him. If we look at the history, we can’t ignore the fact that the Cowboys have a habit of delaying contracts.
