NBC Ruins Crucial Rory McIlroy Moment for Americans With Ill-Timed Ad Break

20 years ago, when Rory McIlroy descended upon Royal Portrush for his first appearance, he claimed history by shooting the course record with a score of 61. Now, twenty years later, when he walked back on Royal Portrush, the golf world couldn’t help but look back in time and exclaim, “It was just unbelievable. He’s obviously an absolute superstar now but, truth be told, he was a superstar in the making after that day.” The point? The golf world is eager to see him perform well in his home country, if only The Open Championship’s broadcast partner, NBC, allows that.

The Northern Irishman is currently playing in the second round of The Open Championship 2025, when the USA fans missed one crucial putt on the 13th hole just because of an ill-timed break. Updating about the same, Josh Carpenter took to X and said, A big moment in Rory’s round on 13, and USA viewers miss it completely. USA comes back from a full commercial break to JT putting form shorter distance and there’s no mention of what Rory (or Tommy for that matter) scored on the hole.”

The fans were not pleased, however, and replied,Coverage is so terrible,” and “It is what it is, I’m used to it I used to be pissed and be all angry about it until I realized I can’t do anything about it besides make myself miserable & that only hurts myself.” What’s worse, however, is the fact that this isn’t the first time.
