Nearly Retiring 3 Years Ago, Olympic Medalist Jason Brown Gets Candid on Figure Skating Comeback

Three years ago, Jason Brown wasn’t sure if he’d ever compete again. Brown toyed with the idea of retirement after the 2022 Winter Olympics, spending a year performing in nearly 100 skating shows instead of committing to a full competition schedule. But then, just when it seemed he might be done, he showed up at the 2023 World Championships in Japan and finished fifth. Brown had mapped out a plan for one last Olympic push. Now, it all seemed to be unraveling, but his trusted skates gave out this season. His confidence wavered. And for months, he disappeared from competition. Then, on Thursday night in Boston, the crowd erupted. Brown, against the odds, was back, fighting, thriving!

The 2025 ISU World Championships in Boston delivered drama from the start. Ilia Malinin set the bar sky-high with a jaw-dropping quad Axel, scoring a personal best 110.41. Shoma Uno and Yuma Kagiyama kept the pressure on, while Andrew Torgashev secured eighth with 87.27. Then came Jason Brown. After months away from competition, battling equipment setbacks, he stepped onto the ice. He fought through under-rotations to score 84.72, placing 6th.

“I’m proud of the fight that I’ve had this season… Every single time I felt like I got knocked down, me and my coaches and sports psych and my family rallied,” Jason Brown told Olympics.com on March 28. “We were like, ‘No, we’re going to keep pushing… we’re going to figure this out.’”

The story is developing…
