Nelly Korda Roasted by Sister Jessica With a 6-Word Message Ahead of U.S. Women’s Open ‘Test’

The LPGA tour is heading to the business end of the season. The Tour is currently at the Erin Hills Golf Club in Wisconsin, in preparation for the second major of the season – the U.S. Women’s Open. The major will be the first in a line of four majors in the span of nine weeks and is set to be a cracker of a competition. One of the competitors, who will be looking to make a mark, is Nelly Korda, who is vying for her third major title. However, ahead of the event, Nelly Korda has found herself in a tricky situation. Nothing serious though!

Her pre-competition press conference created quite the furore in golf circles, prompting responses from even her sister, Jessica Korda. During the press conference, she used one word many times without any prompt, creating a funny and memorable incident.

The transcript contained the word ‘test’ 13 times, of which the moderator was guilty of one, while asking the first question. “You just got off the golf course, played nine holes this morning. What’s your reaction to the test out there?” The moderator had asked at the beginning of the press conference. After that, the World No.1 spoke about the ‘test’ that is the U.S. Women’s Open 12 times.

Nelly Korda was asked about her experience in the U.S. Women’s Open over the years. It was the first major she participated in, when she teed off as a 15-year-old in the 2013 edition. The 2025 tournament will be her 11th appearance at the major. And her response? “Oh, yeah, lots of ups and downs. I mean, it’s the biggest test in the game of golf. Definitely has tested me a lot. I love it. At the end of the day, this is why we do what we do is to play these golf courses in these conditions, to test our games in every aspect. Not even just our games, our mental, as well,” the 2024 Chevron Championship winner stated.

The recurrence of the word test in the press conference was so quirky that Golf Digest made a montage of all the occasions and posted the same as a reel on their official Instagram page. The reel did elicit some responses, making fun of Korda’s tendency to say test. One comment stood out, though. It was none other than Jessica Korda’s comment, making fun of her sister.

The older Korda quipped, “Did everyone ask the same question?” The responses from Nelly Korda were pretty similar, which gave way for her sister to ask the question in a funny way. Jessica Korda is herself an LPGA Tour pro who has won six titles during her career. She would have been part of her fair share of press conferences before and after competitions. However, unfortunately for Nelly Korda, the 32-year-old would not have been ‘tested‘ like this.

The two-time Major winner will hope that her mistakes stay in the press conference and not follow her on the golf course, as she aims to win her third major title.

Nelly Korda’s chances at the U.S. Women’s Open

The 15-time LPGA Tour winner is teeing off at the U.S. Women’s Open with a lot riding on her shoulders. Korda had come to the 2025 season after a dominant 2024 outing where she registered 7 wins, including her second major at the 2024 Chevron Championship. However, she has not yet hit the same pace or verve she displayed last season. The World No.1 has only managed 3 top 10 finishes in seven starts this season.

Her runner-up finish at the season-opening Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions is her best finish so far. Last year, at the same stage, she was breaking records and clinching titles with ease. Despite these setbacks, Korda is one of the favorites to clinch the major title at Erin Hills. The bookies put her as having the second-best chance behind World No.2 Jeeno Thitikul.

It will be interesting to see how she matches up to the ‘test’ that is the U.S. Women’s Open. Do you think Korda can kick-start a sputtering season with an incredible performance at Erin Hills?
