NFL Rumors: Aaron Rodgers Signs ‘Secret’ Contract With Steelers as Mike Tomlin Shares Update on QB Position

Aaron Rodgers in free agency feels like seeing your ex back on the market—everyone’s curious, some are hopeful, and a few just want the drama. The man has been teasing his next move like it’s a season finale cliffhanger. First, it was the Vikings saga, then the retirement speculations. And now? Whispers, speculation, and enough “Rodgers to Steelers” chatter to make your head spin.

But let’s be real—is there actually something brewing, or is this just another case of NFL Twitter running wild? Weeks have passed since he visited the Steelers’ facility, but still, there is no confirmed contract. Or is there one? Let’s cut to the chase: Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan took to his official ‘X’ handle on Wednesday and reported that Rodgers has a secret deal with the Steelers.

Yeah, you read that right. “Our Steelers insider @jhathhorn says on @937theFan that Aaron Rodgers has a secret deal done with the Steelers. Wow,” he wrote in his post. Let’s call it what it is. On March 21, Rodgers arranged a meeting with the Steelers’ officials and the coaches at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.

But the 41-year-old veteran QB left without signing a deal. Because, you know, the meeting was fixed just for reviewing game footage and understanding Rodgers‘ values and expectations with the Steelers. Following his meeting with the Steelers officials and coaches, Rodgers went back to contemplating his options. His top option?

Again, it’s the Vikings. If reports are true, Rodgers was still in pursuit of signing a deal with Minnesota even after the Vikings decided to go ahead with J.J. McCarthy. To top that off, the Vikings’ general manager, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, admitted that the franchise could sign Rodgers but as a backup to McCarthy.

Fast forward, and weeks after deliberation, Rodgers’ options are coming to an end. And yeah, you guessed that right. Pittsburgh is the final destination for the four-time MVP. To make it more interesting, Rodgers reportedly had throwing sessions with the Steelers’ wideout, DK Metcalf, and they were reported to have gone well.

Though Rodgers is yet to sign a deal with Pittsburgh, the Steelers’ owner, Art Rooney II, believes there are “positive” signs the quarterback is heading to Pittsburgh. All in all, it’s safe to say that this month’s long Rodgers-Steelers saga is finally coming to an end. Meanwhile, the head coach, Mike Tomlin, probably looks for another QB1 option.

Steelers QB1: Is it Aaron Rodgers or Mason Rudolph?

Here’s the deal: Steelers’ QB issues aren’t just limited to this season. It all started after Big Ben hung up his cleats after leading the Steelers’ O-line for nearly two decades. Since then, the Steelers have tried four QBs and nothing worked out. Most notably? Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. And the way the last season turned out, both of ’em are off to New York, leaving the Steelers stuck in limbo.

Thanks to that, Pittsburgh had a need to sign a QB. They brought back the former third-round pick, Mason Rudolph, on a two-year $7.5 million deal. Plus, the rumor mill is buzzing that Rodgers has a secret deal done with the Steelers. And that’s where things get pretty interesting. Because, if you’re thinking that Mike Tomlin has brought back Rodolph as a QB1—think again.

During the annual league meetings on Monday, Tomlin revealed that the franchise is “comfortable” with the idea of Rudolph as the starting quarterback. “That’s why we brought him back,” Tomlin said. “I’m comfortable with that. We’ve been there before. He’s a very capable guy.” To make it spicier, the general manager, Omar Khan, kinda echoed the same thing. “I have a lot of confidence in Mason,” Khan said.

Guess we’ve another plot twist in the Steelers’ QB saga. After spending six seasons in Pittsburgh, Rudolph had a brief stint with the Titans in the last season. The guy returned to the Steel City after a poor 1-4 record with the Titans. But let’s be real—the Steelers needed a QB. Rudolph was available. Plus, he was interested in returning as well. There you go. Tomlin didn’t wait for a moment before signing him.

Now, it’s too early to say whether Mason Rudolph is going to start or not. But if the Steelers are really in pursuit of Aaron Rodgers, then it’s safe to say that Mike Tomlin is kinda bluffing at this moment. Because if Rodgers had wanted to be a backup, then he would’ve joined the Vikings. Period!
