That’s exactly what they are urging for! “Hey @NHL Can you put the Stanley Cup Playoffs logo back on the ice this year? That would be pretty cool,” the post read.

For fans, it’s more than just a logo. The Stanley Cup on ice is a symbol of their history that reflects the intensity and charm of playoff hockey! And with the excitement building in every corner, the concern remains—will the league even listen to their demands and bring back the old tradition? Well, for that, we need to wait and watch. It was back in 2022, when fans have been vocal about the new digital ads in the Stanley Cup tournament. It had always been frustrating to see the old traditions getting demolished, because after all, they contributed to making playoff hockey special! The rise of digitally enhanced dasherboards (DED), according to fans, led to visual distractions that made them furious. And it surfaced clearly during a Vancouver Canucks vs. Edmonton Oilers game, when the glitchy ads offered the viewers an unpleasant experience. And, for all that, fans seem to stick to that one demand of bringing back the Stanley Cup Playoffs logo on the ice.

Fans call for old school traditions in Stanley Cup

One fan expressed, “It doesn’t feel like the playoffs without them. Last year before the final, the NHL posted something on Instagram that had me believing it was coming back because it ‘Stanley Cup Final’ in the style of the 2011 playoff decal was in the picture, couple that with the final started a week after the 3rd round ended I started believing they were bringing it back. I was incredibly disappointed to find out I was wrong.”  Well, this was probably the biggest confession the fan made and their sentiment was shared by many.

Another one joined to highlight his emotions for missing the old tradition. They wrote,“The NHL should bring back Stanley Cup logos on ice. Since they won’t, we will be making our celebratory concepts for each playoff team. Let the NHL know something like this needs to happen!” And the ultimate decision of removing the emblem got many pointing their fingers at NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. One fan clearly stated, “Worst thing Bettman ever did was remove this.” Now this seems to be one of the worst moves taken in bringing any change!

But then there was demand to bring back the “old school” Stanley Cup Playoff emblem! And that too, with a specific reference to the 1993 design! One fan who still finds it heartwarming wrote, “Bring back the old school ‘Stanley Cup Playoff Emblem’ on the jerseys! 1993 in particular.” This looks like a great idea of restoring a classic symbol of hockey, isn’t it? To sum it up all well, one of them had to conclude by stating, “Only thing we can ALL agree on ”—a playful yet friendly reminder to bring the changes as the 2025 Stanley Cup Tournament approaches!
