The last time Ryan Garcia was in the ring, the world watched in horror as he exposed Devin Haney. Garcia shattered ‘The Dream’ into a million pieces, dropping him thrice before securing a majority decision victory. Garcia’s fortune didn’t last long though, as Ostarine was found in his system, and he was subsequently suspended from the sport.
However, now he is slated to return to the ring in May against Rolly Romero. This will be Garcia’s comeback fight, and his promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions is expecting great things from the Victorville native. Speaking to Chris Mannix during the Oscar Duarte Jurado vs. Miguel Madueno event at the Honda Center, Anaheim, De La Hoya shared a ‘dangerous prediction’ for Garcia’s return.
“I mean, his next fight should be somewhere around May,” Oscar stated about Garcia’s next fight. “We’re looking at obviously doing big things with him. Turki Alalshikh wants to put together the biggest events possible for boxing. And obviously, we’re right there with him.” Oscar explained that he believes Garcia is craving the action in the ring.

“I strongly feel that Ryan Garcia is ready to come back. He’s hungry, he cannot wait,” Oscar added. He reminded everyone about Garcia’s bout against Haney, stating, “Ryan Garcia, when he fought Devin Haney, he was a very dangerous Ryan Garcia.” Just to reveal his true feelings about Garcia, stating, “But this time around, now that he’s been a year off, now that he’s really hungry to get back in the ring, we’re gonna see a very, very, very dangerous Ryan Garcia up in that ring whenever he fights.”
However, Garcia isn’t the only one returning to the ring.
Ryan Garcia will fight on the same card as Devin Haney
Garcia and Haney have built a heated rivalry since their clash in April last year. The dramatic ending and explosive aftermath of the now infamous fight left fans craving for a rematch to settle the debate. While that showdown, expected to unfold in October later this year, remains on hold, Garcia is set to face former WBA junior welterweight champion Rolly Romero.

Meanwhile, Devin Haney will return to the ring for the first time since his loss to Garcia, taking on former unified WBC/WBO junior welterweight champion Jose Ramirez. Notably, Haney has faced issues with low purse bids due to his embarrassing loss to Garcia. Hence, there’s been a lack of action on his end.
Regardless, adding to the action, Martin Bakole will battle Efe Ajagba in an IBF heavyweight title eliminator.
That said, Oscar De La Hoya seems to be hinting at an explosive comeback from Ryan Garcia this May. Whether ‘King Ry’ can deliver on the promise is yet to be seen, but fans will sure hope he wins to make the Devin Haney fight. Do you think Garcia will dominate Romero?
