Not everything you see on the internet is true. Not every happy face on social media tells the full story. This is true for golf diva Paige Spiranac. Surprising, isn’t it? Who would have thought a social media sensation like her with 4 million followers on Instagram comes with a struggling story in the past?
It’s true that Spiranac has been open about her mental struggles while she was a professional golfer. However, there is more. She recently revealed the anecdote on the Quiet Please Podcast with Mel Raid and Kira Dixon. The tale starts with Spiranac’s appearance in Dubai. Talking about it she said, “It was like the worst moment of my life I will never forget that.” “It’s weird kind of it all happened…I was having a kind of weird relationship with the game of golf and anyone who has played competitively has gone through this where the lows are really low and mentally for me I really struggle with that.” Although Spiranac wanted to play professional golf, she was unable to handle it.
However, her parents suggested she give it a year, and guess what happened next? “I ended up going viral. It was back when people weren’t going viral all the time, so I didn’t know how to handle it,” she said. Following that she played at an LET event. She talked about it saying “I had just turned pro and never played outside the country and everyone was like ‘It’s gonna be lowkey, don’t worry about it, no one’s gonna know if you play well or not.’” Well, things didn’t go as planned. When she showed up at the venue, she had to do hours of press. However, the former golfer wasn’t ready for that, nor had the training to do so.
Also, Spiranac wasn’t treated well on the greens. She revealed, “I would say there were a couple of girls who were nice but the majority it was brutal. As I went on the range, the girls would scatter and no one wanted to hit next to me. There were comments like I did s—– favors to get this invite.” She just wanted people to like her, but as things went opposite, the diva was unable to perform and “played so bad.” She also could not navigate overall.
Further in the Podcast, Paige Spiranac was asked about other hardships she had to face. She talked about it saying “So when I played the European Tour event…I was already dealing with personal issues out of college and I was wrongly medicated so they thought that I was suffering from depression, I actually had anxiety the medication put me depressed so I was dealing with that also being in a new place and environment with all of this pressure on me it was the night before the first round and I locked myself in the bathroom and I was trying to find anything I possibly could to not wake up next morning because I unbelievably stressed out and didn’t have the tools to handle it.”

Despite all that, the diva admitted that it’s all part of her life that helped her grow. Despite the struggles, Spiranac was positive and thought of turning things around the following year. “I am gonna go back and I am gonna prove myself in that I can do this, and it was five minutes before I did a press conference someone was threatening to leak a personal picture that was stolen from me and so I was dealing with this and I had to go on end up crying in the press conference.”
That’s right, the overall situation became a lot more complicated for young Paige. Unfortunately, she had to deal with a lot of bullying as well as she was growing up. Talking about her childhood, she said, “A lot of kids wouldn’t stand next to me because they thought I had a disease.” The bullying wasn’t just emotional; it was physical, too. “Girls would spit in my drinks and throw birthday cake out and really exclude me,” she recalled. While Paige Spiranac has shared the challenges, she faced both growing up and in professional golf, she has also opened up about her insecurities.
What are Paige Spiranac’s insecurities?
The golfing diva uploaded a sit-down video on her official YouTube Channel. In the video, she discussed a lot of things about her personal life. She also opened up about her insecurities, saying, “I think I tend to have impostor syndrome, and I tend to be my own worst critics.” That’s not it, she also confessed that doesn’t fully embrace her accomplishments. “I will downplay my success, or I will downplay these parts of my business or my life because I don’t have full confidence in myself.”
However, Paige Spiranac refuses to be defeated and continues moving forward despite the struggles. “I’ve been working on that this year and trying to be my biggest fan,” acknowledging how crucial it is to shift from self-doubt to self-empowerment. “Life is hard enough, and if you don’t have your own back, then no one will. It’s really about self-confidence, being self-assured, but also, you have to be your biggest fan in life,” said Paige.
