What had started off as a good day in the Bronx quickly turned into a full-blown nightmare. And for the New York Yankees fans, it was kind of the worst type of déjà vu come true. Sunday’s match against the Athletics had what felt like the makings of a feel-good blowout. But by the time Cody Bellinger sent New York into the top of the sixth with a 10-1 lead, it looked like the Yankees might get an easy win. Right?
Well, if only it were that easy. Because if anything good was happening, it had Jazz Chisholm Jr. written all over it. A home run here, a three-run triple there, and a play at third that was stellar. The guy was simply fantastic. However, because the 2025 Yankees baseball can’t have nice things for long, things started unraveling quite drastically. First, JT Brubaker couldn’t lock it down. And suddenly, a 10-1 blowout was a 10-5 reality.
Then it took Jonathan Loaisiga bailing out of the bullpen and a highlight reel grab by Chisholm just to keep the game from slipping further off. But then came the moment no one really wanted to see.

In the bottom of the sixth, Jazz Chisholm tried to check his swing on a two-strike pitch. And instantly, he crumpled in pain and was clutching his wrist. He didn’t drop the bat, but his body told the entire story, and it looked bad. Eyes winced, he was completely tense, twisted, and in pain. The crowd went completely silent. Because this is the guy who has been the spark ever since returning from IL.
Chisholm rocked a .990 OPS and is doing everything needed to rev up an otherwise lifeless offense. And right now, just like that, the New York Yankees’ feel-good day turned into another complete, full-blown panic session. Right now, there seems to be no word on the severity of the injury, if any. But just the sight of Chisholm in so much pain was enough to send chills through the Yankee Nation.
Just when it felt like the offense was waking up, the fear now is that the heartbeat might just have been sidelined. And fans are not taking it easy.
