Deion Sanders is once again showing the world how much of an icon he truly is. Actually, he’s more than that; Coach Prime is a phenomenon. He was one during his playing days and is just the same as Colorado’s HC. Sanders has built an image for himself that goes beyond what football is. Though Coach Prime left his prime career days way back in the past, that doesn’t mean it still can’t have an effect today. A former Colorado star, however, was not able to be a part of it.
Coach Prime enjoys a very unique fan base in the community. They’re absolutely loyal fans, mostly seeing him as an example of Black excellence in American football. The power in his name and image led to a shocking record in the release of his iconic memorabilia. Nike, which had a longstanding collaboration with Sanders, made a surprise drop on May 23.
The sporting giant launched the Nike Air DT Proto ’92, which was never made open to the public when it was originally made. The classic 90s shoe bears the Nike text on the strap, which itself is such a nostalgic element. And the ‘Deion Sanders effect’ worked its magic like a charm. The model sold out in just 10 minutes on SNKRS, a feat that was shared on Coach Prime’s Instagram. “They say I Sold out ! They had to be talking about my shoes. Sold out on SNKRS in less than 10 minutes,” read Coach Prime’s caption, which was shared on his behalf by Bucky.
The comment section of the Insta post is filled with people saying that they missed out on the chance to get Coach Prime’s iconic shoes. Among these people is a former Colorado player close to Sanders. He also could not make the purchase in those 10 minutes. Former Buffs WR and now a Panther, Jimmy Horn Jr., took to the comments, saying, “Ian even get a chance to get mines,” lamenting the missed opportunity.
Horn Jr. is more than just a Colorado player for Deion Sanders. He’s almost like a son to the HC. Coach Prime stepped into that role after his father, Jimmy Horn Sr., was sentenced to prison for drug-related charges. Sanders shaped him dutifully into the star he is right now, while his father still remains in prison. He has gone the extra mile for Jimmy on occasions too. At Colorado’s pro day, he had asked Sanders to walk with him when his name was called, and Coach Prime agreed right off the bat. In essence, the HC watched over Jimmy when his father couldn’t, a gesture for which he remains grateful.
Jimmy Horn Jr., a Deion Sanders prodigy, is making waves at Carolina
Jimmy Horn Jr. is a star in the making at Carolina. He is already cementing himself as a receiver to look out for, impressing coaches with his speed. His agility is his biggest strength—having an impressive record of 4.38-4.40 seconds for his 40-yard dash at Colorado’s pro day. That’s less than the number he clocked at the NFL Scouting Combine! And he knows he’s got more records to publish as a panther. “I’ll be flying,” Jimmy said at a presser after the rookie minicamp.
NFL Rookie Watch reports that Horn Jr. might be even faster than Panthers star WR, Tetairoa McMillan. “Horn Jr. was reportedly the ‘twitchiest route runner on the field’ and was ‘noticeably quicker’ than Tetairoa McMillan (8th overall pick),” their X page reported. “His footwork reportedly had Panther’s coaches “in awe” and his speed was something some coaches have never seen before at the position. Several NFL scouts reportedly believe Horn Jr. could be the Panther’s “leading slot receiver” as a rookie and could contribute at a level similar to that of Tank Dell (Texans WR),” the tweet read.
Jimmy Horn Jr. is an explosive player and can work pure magic once he gets his spot on the team. He may be proud of his speed, but sadly, it couldn’t get him those iconic Coach Prime shoes.
