Paul Skenes’ Territory Already Invaded by Top Prospect as Roman Anthony Takeover Set to Follow Next

It looks like a truckload of opportunities is awaiting the young talents this season. Not only on the field, but also off the field. Any guesses what we are talking about? Well, we all are aware of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ ace Paul Skenes’ Rookie Debut Patch Autograph Card that was sold for a massive $1.11 million in the auction, right? The winner was Dick’s Sporting Goods, who made the highest bid that time. Now, a top prospect has made his way onto this coveted stage.

Jac Caglianone, a name that many are still not familiar with, has his first 2024 Bowman autographed card. The fact that the card has reached the $1,000 sale mark is a big achievement in itself. Now with Caglianone invading the territory of Paul Skenes, the name of Roman Anthony seems to be next on the cards.

Yes, you heard that right! The top prospect for the Boston Red Sox will likely get a 1st Bowman autographed card in PSA 10 as an outfielder, per Keith Law of The Athletic. Caglianone has already done it, and if rumors are to be true, Anthony will likely join the list sooner rather than later. And for a rookie, it’s even more special when his card hits the value of big players.

We, though, aren’t quite surprised. Jac Caglianone, the first baseman and outfielder for the Kansas City Royals, made his way into the major league within just a year after being drafted in the first round. He used to both pitch and bat in Florida; however, ever since he got drafted into the majors, Caglianone’s primary focus has remained on his batting.

The excitement surrounding Caglianone is impeccable. And that’s quite evident from the way his card’s value has reached the level of Paul Skenes’ 2023 first Bowman card. As of June 8, the value of Caglianone’s card is over $1157, leaving behind the average value of Skenes’ card, which was $1063.

Call it a coincidence or something else, Jac Caglianone has indeed shown his potential in the game against the Chicago White Sox. He went 4-for-4 with a double and three singles that paved the path to a 7-5 Royals win. Now, it’s very likely that Roman Anthony may also follow a similar path, given the way he is performing in the minor league. Although his card value is hovering around the $550 mark, it will be no surprise if the value suddenly skyrockets. There’s been a handful of sales already between the $700 and $900 mark.

It’s now up to the collectors, who will have to decide whether to hold on or wait for the promotions. However, amid this takeover, there’s bad news for Jac Caglianone. Guess what it is?

Top prospect missed out big on a rookie card despite making major league debut

Jac Caglianone, the top prospect, may be going red hot with his Bowman 1st card value scoring higher than Paul Skenes, but he is a bit unlucky in another matter. The 22-year-old Kansas City Royals star is the first player to make his debut in the same year he was drafted since 1986, when Bo Jackson achieved a similar feat.

While making it to the major league is itself a proud feeling for a rookie sensation, there’s a slight problem. Caglianone just missed out on getting his name featured in the year’s Topps releases. The reason? Well, Jac Caglianone made his debut past the date of rookie eligibility. And very likely, he will not have a rookie card under his name.

Quite unfortunate that he came so close, but it feels so far now, right?

However, for the Royals star, it’s just the beginning of his career. His promotion was always on the cards, given that he did great in the minor league and training sessions. In his minor league appearances, Caglianone batted at an impressive .322 average with a .982 OPS and posted fifteen home runs, too. We can now see glimpses of his potential in the major league, too. And hopefully, he will soon be featured in the 2026 Topps Series!
